gambling seems to be getting over used regarding Newcastle, surely its better described as calculated risks

if we can keep hold of Amavi, Veretout, Ayew, Gil, Traore, Gana and a few others, we have a chance

It is very easy to see how we could stay in Div 2 or drop even further.
The big Finacial cost is going to be clearing out all the contracts of the players that are stinking out the club as well as bringing in replacements that can get us back up.
I don't think this can be achieved without significant investment and there is nothing to suggest that this Investment will be forthcoming.
We have every reason to be very worried.

They are signing players that are better than bottom 6 quality in fairness. Shelvey Townsend Doumbia even Saivet and Berahino if they get him are all mid to upper mid table players. All have flaws in their game but I would back then to get some results now. They are a significantly better side for having them. We would be too.

Yes. I'd add Okore, Grealish and possibily Cissokho to that list and then promote a few of the kids into the squad. While a couple of the above will probably end up leaving, I can see a fair few of them sticking around.

We need a keeper, defender, midfielder and striker through the spine that can lead. Newcastle had that. We don't unless we buy well

We don't have 4 players remotely as effective as those to start with.

Why are we the new Sheffield Wednesday? Didn't they have crippling financial problems?

Lerner's lost interest completely, he'll want his money back, he won't get it back in any sale now, he'll take any money out of the club he can until he feels he's near even, then sell to whoever will pony up the cash. I don't trust him or anyone he's appointed at board level. He's going to fuck us over. For all the custodian bullshit he's spouted in the past. His actions have been completely contrary to those of a good custodian. This is going to end badly
Even if he doesn't do that, we might be stable now, but what about 2-3 years? We're awful enough to double drop without a significant change in our approach. We're not going down with a noose on our necks like Leeds did, or Portsmouth, but we have to be careful. I wouldn't trust Randy to look after a bag of chocolate coins the daft fucker.

I'm depressed, bordering on distraught at the current state of the club, but the last line of that post made me chuckle.

I think it's interesting you used the word 'effective' rather than 'good'. I can see what you're getting at. None of those 4 are very good players in my view, but they're scrappers - 7 out of 10 men every week.

Colocini is absolute mince. Lescott, Okore, Amavi, Veretout, Gil, Traore are all good enough to steam hat league.

Gestede brassed the place up for God's sake. The second division is wank.

We are absolutely crying out for someone like Nolan. Which is a bit depressing.

If we add a spine to those. A commanding keeper, centre back, centre mid and goal scorer then in a best case scenario, with a few astute additions to the squad too I'd be very confident of winning that division.

I'm not sure we will attract a good spine to the team though and I'm not that confident of keeping the few we have. If it does come together though, we can get back in 1 year.

When we start going upwards not downwards the buyers will appear. My guess is that Randy will deaf them and put the price back up.

Newcastle had leaders as well. Big voices to pick them up, even if they were gobshites. We don't we have the quietest bunch of players I've ever seen on a pitch, they accept whatever happens.

Exactly, you need that spine and build around that. We have a number of decent team players but will still need to build the foundations of a team, my worry is that we won't.
