They've rolled the dice. They've massively over spent because of their prior poor mismanagement. Whether this increase in quality is enough to keep them up this year, time will tell. They've had a go at the least.

Depends how much Tony wants a cut

Newcastle are gambling massively if that deal goes through.  Nearly £50m in fees and goodness knows how much on wages in the past couple of weeks.
gambling yes but they will still have two good players as assets whether up or down

It's being reported that we have reneged on a deal to loan Debuchy as we want Arsenal to reduce the loan fee.

We've given up being a football club, we're the cast off of a bored, boneheaded, billionaire, buffoon. We're not coming back until someone else buys us, we're the new Sheffield Wednesday. The Wankers running the show now will repeat the same mistakes again and again, as we've done for the last five years. Inadequate budgets, sub standard players for the level we're at, corporate bullshit about false narratives, increased commercial activity, not wasting a crisis, whilst we spiral down. Whilst the yank twat becomes ever more detached. We're fucked. I only hope he gets an offer in the summer and quits while he's behind, otherwise I'm really worried this is just the start...

With every respect to you aj2 I do not give a shit about what we are seen to be, I only care about what we are.  I deal in what I know, not what I am told.  Just as you do, I love the club, just as my mother and my grandfather did and my sons and my grandsons do.

The ten or twenty around us on the Holte are collectively my best friends.  I have a number of good friends on H and V.  Use a word like vicious about my friends and I will call it a lie, whether it comes from a troll or James Nursey.

But outside appearance will matter when it comes to signing players, as well as money. Unfortunately in this day and age of football image matters. Ours right now is hardly positive and I can't see another 4 months of losses helping.

In four months time we won't be looking at the same players we would have been if we'd stayed up.

The total fee & wages for the Rhodes deal is reported to be in the region of £30m.

Why are we the new Sheffield Wednesday? Didn't they have crippling financial problems?

My view is that given the choice of being a laughing stock in the Premiership or being a respected, well run, progressive club in the Championship I would choose the latter.

Can you give us an example of a respected, we'll run, progressive club in the Championship?

leeds?

Giving up on Debuchy. The worst part is, that whilst he would improve us a fucking million-fold at right back over the utter, utter toss we have at the club, Debuchy is pretty average himself and is also way past his best. What a sorry state of affairs. If this club was a dog it would have been shot years ago. The very moment Alex McLeish rolled up to this slathering lipped mongrel we should have pulled the bastard trigger.

If something drastic isn't done in the summer, without wishing to sound like one of those mentalists in London who walk around with a notice board on them and ranting about the end of days, we are pretty much doomed. Doomed I tells ya!!

10m fee for Rhodes, plus 1.5m signing on fee, plus I would bet about 2m a year wages, on a 5 year deal I make that 22m? How on earth will it get to 30?

At 22m, if he scored 20 goals next season that saw us up, then it would be well spent.

No. He just doesn't want to spend it on Villa anymore.

He's already on £2.5m a year at Blackburn & it's being held up because he wants a promotion bonus.

I don't see the point in spending another £2.4 million on yet another full back, whose position means he cannot have a significant impact on our position.  We need goals, we needed them in August, we're not going to get them and we are all but relegated.

We'recommend beating a tactical retreat from this league. Why bother spending money that will go a lot further next season towards our promotion. It stinks, but I we'recommend going down, and it seems we are, then we may as well.keep.the powder dry.

Lerner's lost interest completely, he'll want his money back, he won't get it back in any sale now, he'll take any money out of the club he can until he feels he's near even, then sell to whoever will pony up the cash. I don't trust him or anyone he's appointed at board level. He's going to fuck us over. For all the custodian bullshit he's spouted in the past. His actions have been completely contrary to those of a good custodian. This is going to end badly
