The obvious shortcomings we saw yesterday and for most of the season, juxtaposed with the absolute silence on the transfer front make me want to weep with frustration.

Billy please do not confuse my answer to Villa for life as any support for Lerner, because it is not, but any form of protest I believe should have an achievable goal and also have some form of ill effect on the person it is aimed at. We are all I firmly believe of the understanding that we are now an annoyance to Lerner nothing else and yes if it makes people feel better letting off steam at Lerner carry on, but water of a ducks back comes to mind as far as Lerner is concerned.

Water off a duck's back or not, the bottom line is that he clearly sees Villa as an investment to keep ticking over until he feels it's time to offload. This, for me, is incredibly disrespectful to the Club and supporters and it inevitably leads to a culture of apathy and failure.

As fans my feeling is all we can do is make his plans to keep Villa ticking over as difficult as possible.  Boycott season tickets, boycott the new kit etc.  It might be water off a duck's back but he simply won't get his money back on Villa without the "customers" making his asset viable.

Looking at the lack of transfer action this month I seriously believe he is now starting to pocket money from the Club.  If we go down my feeling is we won't be given nearly enough to get back up - he will trouser what he can.  Yes, all wild speculation on my part, but I'm afraid  I just don't believe his PR any more. He is now all about making his money back, first and foremost.

You may well be right Billy.  You certainly are right in your comment about showing respect for the club and the fans.

However, and I accept fully that I may well be wrong, not even Randy Lerner is so stupid that he would in the words of the old joke about the shipwrecked sailors, chop up a lifeboat to build a raft.

The boards attitude to this transfer window is beyond disgusting. Absolute confirmation that they have given up. Wonder if they would be happy to have season tickets returned and credit everyone back 50%.
We have all been mugged off and Garde's been sold a lemon.

I'm increasingly certain that the only thing we'll do this window is disprove the saying about a fool and his money.

Have to say, I agree.

The meekness with which they've accepted going down, and the total lack of fight make me so angry.

We didn't just need players in, we needed them as early as possible, yet here we are, the day before the window closes and we've actually signed nobody.

I appreciate it's not easy when you are bottom of the league, but Newcastle and Sunderland are in big trouble too, and they seem to be prepared to do what it takes to get out of it.

Yes it's difficult to attract players when you're bottom of the league but if you offer them the money players WILL come. That's it in a nutshell though, weeve spent the last 5 or so years doing everything on the cheap and we're not gonna break that habit till Lerner final sells up.

Never, ever, ever, misunderestimate Lerner's capacity to be an utter moron.

15 games 45 points left and they decide to just give up.

Unforgivable , left fans to watch us  slowly and embarrassingly sink into oblivion for 4 more months.

Good luck getting fans back next season ..

That's the worst part for me. They gave up even before the January window opened. That's more than half the season to play and they gave up on our proud Premier League status.
Shame on them.

I sincerely believe that the plummet into the championship is intentional on some notion of it being a cheaper league to compete in. Since we arent pushing for europe and fight to survive every year, I get the impression that 'well, we arent good enough for the premier league, lets drop down to a more realistic level' as opposed to spending money on players that dont make a difference. And that is the problem. We bought in bulk without getting any quality. Diamonds in the rough are great when you have a squad filled with quality but we dont. Even Benteke was hit and miss for us as well as Delph and the problems were evident way way before they finally left. We will miss players like Albrighton and Weimann in the championship next year and the board will sit around twiddling their thumbs wondering why we are bombing out of that league. Either that or we will end up getting players deperate to get into the prem, scrappers, journeymen etc that means we will always be in a state of rebuilding. When we drop out of the league and lets not forget we have only won twice this year, it will be deserved and most likely irreversible whilst these charlatans masquarading as our board are still here as to them, so long as money comes in from revenue such as shirts etc, then it doesnt matter. There isnt any passion or any fandom in the board. If we tank, Lerner loses money but what else? He isnt a fan, hasnt been part of villa for longer than 10 years. It is just business.

We could bemoan the league and the cartel of the sky 4 but even Leicester have shown it can be done with style, passion and belief. Yes they may end up losing some of their stars to the 'big' teams but we have been poor on and off the pitch and if I was Garde, I would find another club as he is far too good for the piss take that is the villa at the moment as it is clear that we are not attracting anyone and I believe that the club are still not backing their man to do his job. The entire club seems to have accepted their fate and seems happy enough with their lot.....

Cant find any joy with the villa at the moment and a lesson learnt from lerner who yes but in huge amounts of his own money but should have sold us when he lost interest and when we were a better prospect.

What Lerner is overseeing especially the lack of activity within this window up to the present time is nothing but disgraceful, so the thought that he has spent his money previously, although very badly, that now is the time to get as much back as I can, as stated previously through none investment in playing staff and the selling of non playing assets, does not seem that far fetched and although I appreciate your point Brian about selling when the points are accumulating in the Championship, there needs to be the basis of a team to gather those points and as seen from previous Lerner or Lerner yes men decisions, that has not been AVFC's strong point for nearly 6 years now.

But we're not in either Newcastle or Sunderlands position are we, we're 10 points adrift.

Heres the scenario, What if no one will come unless we pay them crazy wages and they get to walk at the end of May for nothing. And such a gamble in turn wrecks the Summers transfer budget. What then? Still spend in some wreckless shit or bust suicide mission?

I'm sure we've tried, but we're toxic right now. We'll be everyones very last option if that.
