We've won twice all season. We're 10 points from safety. We're on our best run of the year but still not making any ground.  We've a very tough run of games coming up.

I'd love to see us get out of this but we won't. I don't want us to fuck up next season before it starts by chasing rainbows in this window. Of all the irresponsible actions under Lerner's tenure that would be the worst.

Teams are in and around the relegation zone for one reason only and it's because they're shit, so let's face it they're gonna lose games, and lots of them. Back to back wins and you're back in the mix. We've given up way too early.

Absolutely. I am sick of the excuses, we simply have not been prepared to do what is necessary to attract players and have given up.

Sunderland have given themselves a chance by bringing some fresh players in, so have Newcastle, Swansea and Norwich.

It isn't like only one team is going down, three clubs are, which makes that lot just as risky a proposition as we are to potential new signings. Those clubs have weighed up the risks and either taken them, or mitigated them. I don't believe that Norwich or Swansea will have done any deal that is going to cripple them on relegation, they are well run clubs. We could have done the same or more, we are bigger with more revenue and more chance of coming back up.

So rumours of a late transfer market raid are wide of the mark then?

I see Vidic has called time on his playing career, so that's one injury prone defender we wont be signing to replace another injury prone defender in Senderdross.

I'd say the difference between a 10 point gap and a 4 point gap changes the situation for both clubs and players completely.  Those clubs are taking a calculated risk, on the other hand we could be committing financial suicide.  All those clubs are 50/50 bets to stay up, what would you give us 90/10 if that.

I think Sunderland's spending is miscalculated and that they'll struggle with their wages in the Championship.

I would be trying to get rid of players that do not figure in the future, now. It might be easier to shift them now when some team might be desperate. If they are not getting into the team we may as well use U21 players as cover.

I'd say (with the right couple of signings) we could have been 40:60, which isn't much worse. Lets say we had signed Austin (yes it probably wasn't possible), a good Keeper, and a a gutsy midfielder early in the window then we would likely be four points closer already and in a far better position to catch up.

He probably took that decision as soon as he saw his name linked with us

Can't we get players on loan who return to their parent club at end of the season?

Do you not think they'd have relegation clauses in there?

Besides doing nothing is far more of a risk than buying sensibly now. Meekly accepting a definite £100 million drop in income, without even attempting to sort it out, or even get closer to competitive for next season is pretty bloody risky and stupid.

And irrespective of all the money we'd lose (which is bad enough) they seem not to be particularly bothered about the shame of relegation for a club as big as Aston Villa. Where's the pride in the club?

Yes and no.I think when you're in a mire like we are and also Sunderland, that players are more likely to have the whip card. It may well be that they negotiate lower buyouts for example, as they'll get paid the balance of their contract in full if they're moved on in the summer.

Parasitic agents will be trying to make hay at the clubs expense.

And be subject to a transfer embargo sooner rather than later
