Yes. I remember stories that he argued with Milosevic in the dressing room during the Balkan War.

He was another work permit refusee, Man U got turned down for one. We were able to sign him shortly afterwards.

I am very dopey. When I read this, my first thought, quite genuinely, was: "What the hell was Bozzie doing with Slobodan Milosevic?"

Coke?

It is pretty concerning that other clubs in the relegation mix all seem to be buying players whereas we seem to be doing nothing.

To be honest the only player I would want that the teams around us have bought is Afobe.  We were linked with him in the summer and I think we missed out there.  I suppose Shelvey and Townsend might have added something, but their price tags were way too steep.

I still think we'll see some players coming in, but it will be late in the window.

It's not so much the players Newcastle have signed, it's more the intent they're showing.

Yep.

Bamford on loan has got to be worth a go surely? If it goes well follow up with a permanent deal. Too logical for our 'brain trust' methinks.

I reckon even our 'brains trust' know he's already on loan elsewhere.

If you mean palace he's left them and gone back to Chelsea. I don't know if he's been loaned elsewhere since Palace, though.

Yep.

Or, they are showing the same intent as us but players see them as a better option than us. Do people seriously think we haven't tried to sign anybody?

Milosevic was actually Bosnian, just to add to the confusion.

Did he actually play for Bosnia as well as Yugoslavia?

No. He was a Bosnian-Serb and played for Yugoslavia, then Serbia & Montenegro, then Serbia. He's also had a spell as assistant manager for Montenegro.

I didn't know that, maybe there is a place for me on our board.

I agree with that, the fact we are cut adrift will be a major factor as to players not wanting to come to us.

I reckon we have been trying but lets be honest as it stands we are hardly an attractive option

Big Ron did find Bozzie a wife in order to get his work permit though.

Agree they have shown intent Paul, but spending nearly £25m on two players who are probably only really worth half of that could also be reviewed as reckless.  They are likely to be on big wages as well, the kind of wages that can get clubs into big problems if they get relegated.

They are but we wold have loved to have signed Shelvey and Afobe I reckon.  Both would have improved us no end. I accept they were well over priced though

A little surprised people are lamenting the lack of transfers before the window shuts. Garde intimated right at the start that the action, if any, would happen at the end. We have little purchasing power and we are rightly not willing to pay overs or panic into a buy, having done so in recent years and been stuck with an expensive, unhelpful player. I think there is intent and some money, but also caution and care. That's a good thing. Let's see how it ends up.

You can't be that surprised, surely?

Spot on, I think people's expectations need to be weighed against reality and pragmatism.
