Townsend for 12m is the sort of business that would have had people up in arms on here though.

It's pretty irresponsible spending. What are his wages?

I don't think I'm going to get a rake of beer and party food in for the Sky Transfer Centre special on 01 Feb.

He must be on a fair wedge at Spurs, and I think Newcastle will have to improve on those terms to tempt him to the club. I also imagine a release clause will be added.

A quick look online has conflicting amounts for what he was on at Spurs. Most say 16K a week, a couple of others 40K.

£250,000 a week is the figure I've made up.

Madness, Tom Huddlestone is on £150,000 a week, probably.

Townsend is a slightly above average Premier League player, but that's what £12m gets you these days.

Look at Bourenmouth have spent on their last two, Afobe and the winger from Norwich who's name escaped me. £10m and £7m weren't they?

We were spending £12m on Milner & Downing 6-7 years ago...

I'd be astonished if it was 16k. 40k is probably the low end. To be fair Spurs don't generally pay bonkers wage fees, but he'll want a good rise to go to the Toon, knowing full well he's walking into a circus.

As an England international there'll be no way that he'll be on as little as 16k a week.

Must admit I am feeling somewhat frustrated with the lack of activity now. Bonkers fees aside, Newcastle are doing what we should be, spending money on decent players. Shelvey and Townsend are both better than anything we have in the team right now, and it looks liken they are in for Remy as well.

I'm off to watch Fleetwood play Walsall this evening, maybe I should offer to scout.

I wouldn't...pitch inspection at 3

As an aside I went to Fleetwood v Colchester earlier in the season wearing my Villa top. The head steward is a Villa fan who went to Rotterdam in 82. Had a great chat with him.

Tuesday's League One game between Fleetwood Town and Walsall has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at Highbury Stadium.

No new date has yet been set for the game to be played.

He only signed the contract just over 2 years ago after he had played half a dozen or so league games so it could well have been that low, certainly to begin with.

Got the ticket off the groundsman - you'd think he would have let us know!

Ticket scandal at Fleetwood. Bet he's raking it in.
