Seeing as he was at Wolves, I don't think he'd have been going to Bournemouth for Charles N Zog-style wages.

Probably £35-40K tops.

I reckon he's building expectation but it'll be something and nothing.
Probably confirming a new kit deal or some other non story.

I'm hoping that tweet from Alan Nixon about good news for Villa tomorrow means a striker in-coming. Boy do we need it.

Someone we've never heard of coming in up front.

It's not.  They're adding the no 7 buses into the no 11 queue around Witton Circle.

If it's been decided behind the scenes that we're waiting to be a Championship side, I don't mind missing out on Austin. I don't even mind being in the Championship for a while if the football we're watching is great. But I will mind, a lot, if we try and build a team around some of the shite we have in our squad. In my mind, relegation is the price we have to pay to wash of the stench of insipid, uninspired football with no end product.

I do mind that they have seemingly accepted our fate with such little resistance.

I'm not talking about throwing money at the thing like it's 2011 either, but there are plenty of forwards out there at midtable>lower prem teams or Championship teams better than Gestede and Kozak. That's if we're just limiting ourselves to these shores -and there's no way we should be doing that anyway.

What has saved us in recent years is that Benteke, Delph and, yes, even Vlaar were far better than anything else around in the bottom 5/6.

I don't see Gestede or Kozak getting a game at any other side in the topflight; either the promoted lot or dross like Sunderland and Olbiyun.

On current form, I'm not sure there would be a huge amount of interest from other PL sides if we made Lescott, Okore and co available either.  Richards maybe, but not as a guaranteed starter.

If we're serious about staying in this league we need to sign a forward who can find the back of the net. If we have to break the Bank to do it and make someone an offer they can't refuse so be it. Sod FFP and Lerner's Bank balance is of no concern of to me. To repair the damage the absentee land lord has caused by hiding behind the sofa these past years won't be cheap and if he cares as much as he professes to, he'll do it...

I knew it would be nothing.  This is his latest.

Villa. It's a tinkering of the managerial staff. Full details on paper. Positive move in my view. For what that's worth.

Who is Alan Nixon?

A very poor football journalist who went from being shit at The Mirror to shit at The Sun. So if he says that he has good news, it's got about the same validity as reading something in The Sun football gossip.

You know those jokes about if Mark Lawrenson predicts that you'll win then it means that you won't? That's Alan Nixon for transfers.

He'll occasionally get something right, but it's more though accident than design.

Very good summation of The Nixx.
