Linked with Lyon striker Claudio Beauvue according to the Star rag.

It seems that Remi is having second thoughts about him and is now going for Benjamin Moukandjo from Lorient. But they have no intention of selling him this month. Happy days....

It seems both are winger come strikers.  I do wonder whether the glaring lack of pace, Traore aside, is shaping the forwards he is looking at.  If he can get a couple of tricky forwards at a decent price bedded into the side this season it will help a lot next. Especially with the likely scenario that someone will buy Ayew in the summer.

Be a bit silly to replace one moody fucker from France with another, but the way things have gone over the past 5 years nothing would surprise me any more.

Is it too late to sign a new squad as a whole?

People saying Garde was pretty pessimistic about signings this morning.  Can we simply forfeit the next 18 games!

Judging by that, maybe we have.

I'd rather bring nobody in than some mercenaries coming for cash.

The money can be better spent in the summer.

Agreed, no point burning cash on mercenaries in our position.

But I've so little faith left in the decision making these days I'm sure we'll end up doing the absolute worst thing we can do now - loan to seasons end for Andros Townsend on £80k a week anyone?

I wouldn't be too bothered if we don't sign anyone to be honest, were doomed anyway. May as well build for next year

Having watched these strikers playing on YouTube, the defensive capabilities of the French League remind me of Villa!

It is about as grim as it gets, relatively, at the moment.

All but the tiniest fraction of all football transfers are "mercenaries coming for cash". It's their job and they do it for their wages.

Which players that we have signed in the last say, 20 years have joined us for a reason other than that?

Agreed, no point burning cash on mercenaries in our position.

Realistically though, 99% of all professional footballers are mercenaries and the 19 teams above us in the League are packed full of them. I'd gladly see some better quality mercenaries come in this month to improve our team. in fact, I refuse to believe that we don't have options to do so. There's still half a season left and we're still in a cup competition, if nothing else.

If the club fail to do anything in the market this month they're effectively throwing the towel in. Are we to assume that ticket-prices will drop for the remainder of the season accordingly...?
