I saw somewhere that Gabby won't be leaving after all.
OMG that's almost like a new signing. Total relief!

Yep. Like signing Steven Hawking.

It's because he doesn't want to leave apparently.  I'll bet he doesn't.

There is little if any point in signing anyone, they may as well save the money to compensate for income drop to come.

No way Gabby will go anywhere, he will sit out his contract just like CNZ and the others.

One thing is certain with the championship, a tight defence is paramount this season. The top 3 have conceded 12, 15 and 17 this season in 24. Hull have Dawson leading their back line, Boro I have no idea while Derby have Warnock in their back 4. Surely we can find a centre half that can organise and lead between now and August to give us a fighting chance!

Providing they can cope with the demand of playing two games a week for a lot of the season, I think the Okore / Lescott partnership would be fine in the Championship.  They would not be faced with the type of pace they are in the top flight and with a better keeper behind them and better full-backs either side they would be fine.

I would keep Senderos if fit too. The only time we have been defensively sound in 2 years was the 8 or so games he was in for.

Senderos, Ilori, Crespo & Kozak. Like an episode of The X-Files.

With Traore materialising briefly then vanishing and Grealish seeming to be afflicted with the early stages of the disappearing virus.

I've heard it said that to win the Championship you need to score 90+ goals and get 90+ points so that's arguably a bigger issue to address than the defence. We should be looking to Championship and looking to have a squad built that will easily be able to finish mid-table in the first season back.

As for the defence looking better with Senderos, bare in mind that at the time Lambert had gone out all-defensive and we hardly got anyone going forward. He'll also be in the final stages of his career and injury prone. We would be better looking at getting an experienced organiser with time on his side and with a record of being fit as his replacement.

Maybe so.  But it costs nothing to give him a few games to see.

You need 2 points a game to get up automatically.  At the moment the top 8 have scored about 34 in 24 on average. What sets the top 3 apart is conceding 17 or less from Hull upwards. I think keeping them out is vital certainly this season.

Garde talking openly about wanting Loic Remy on SSN this morning. Don't usually comment like that do they?

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde wants Loic Remy to save his club from what appears to be inevitable relegation.

Garde was part of the coaching team at Lyon, where Remy began his career, and aims to tempt his fellow Frenchman on loan from Chelsea.

Remy has played just 146 minutes of Premier League football this season – less than Baba Rahman, Kenedy and even Radamel Falcao.

Villa are 11 points adrift of survival but Garde believes that canny January business could see them pull off the seemingly impossible.

“He is a guy that I know well,” Garde told the Birmingham Mail. “Of course it would be an interesting player for the team. Of course, yes.

“Loic is quite a special one because he knows the country and knows the league.”

“I can’t tell you exactly today (about the chances of signing him), but he is part of some players I am trying to attract in Aston Villa for sure.”

Remy scored 14 Premier League goals while on loan at Newcastle from QPR in 2013/14
