He played superbly for the Irish during the European qualifiers. I think he's 32 so not over the hill but very experienced and could offer something to our squad in the short term. Wouldn't be against it.

Agreed. He's got PL experience, bite, a touch of class at times and he's not over the hill just yet. He'd be perfect to help drag the Villa out of the bottom 3. He'd demand PL wages though, and that's the only worry for me. We have to splash the cash in January or we're doomed.

Not being funny but why would Walters be a realistic target? He's playing regularly for Stoke  so can't see why he'd be looking to play for another team, let alone one deep in a relegation scrap

Ashley Cole would be a decent shout as an interim left back.  Experienced, and still a lot better than any fit player we have, or any decent player we might be able to get, and wouldn't block Amavi's progress.

Loic Remy would be great too, but I doubt Chelsea would release him, unless they've got someone else lined up.

Joel Campbell - meh.
