We need buy players who can play 4-2-3-1

So LB as Richardson is frankly shit
CM to play as a holder alongside Sanchez though perhaps Gueye could work there
3 Behind striker Gil /Grealish /Ayew/Traore / Vertout /Nzog /Sinclair can mix and match there but who ever is there need to be scoring
Striker ..Target man who can hold up the ball or someone with decent movement

Defoe/Crouch will both be available could be good short term solutions of known names.

Everyone knows what we need but I think it'll be too late by then.

Goal scorer
Defensive midfielder x2
Left back
Goalkeeper

They don't need to be world beaters, but they need to be men & reliable Premiership performers. Not many would take Whelan or Adams from Stoke nor Huth from Leicester but they're all men & know their job. Everything in front of the defence is too lightweight, shite or both.

Calum Chambers isn't much quicker than Lescott.

I've said it before, Peter Crouch as a short term fix. He can hold the ball up and chips in with goals.

Is he still fond of us?

Good shout re Crouch. He cant get a kick at Stoke

Jedinak from Palace, a leader, tough and ideal to sit in front of a back four.  Not a regular at Palace and would not cost a lot.

Because he and Amavi might hit it off while recovering?

Danny Ings with one leg would still be more of a goal threat than Gabby and Gestede.

Seriously when your strike force is Ayew, Gabby and Gestede you know you're fecked.

The club should be identifying now 2 players that they can realistically bring in on loan.  These need to be players that will go straight into the first team.  They need to be international class and be identified to fill specific positions in the team.  I would have thought left back is a glaringly obvious positions as I do not think we will be buying a player when we have Amavi to come back next year.

There will be many players across Europe that are in the final year of their contracts and will not be retained.  Once the CL final rounds teams have been identified there will be clubs that have not qualified that may be willing to let higher paid players go.  European clubs seem to work more along the lines of signing a player on a contract and accept him moving on at the end of the contract due to lower wages but with signing on benefits.

I cannot suggest anybody, just the method that we should be adopting.  I should imagine paying somebody £75k a week until the end of the season would attract quality players.  Adding a bonus based on performance would show what we want out of them.  The time to do the research is now and if they are from countries that take a mid-season break, get them in as soon as that happens, even though they will not be available to play until January.

The above would be a short term fix for a couple of positions, the more difficult thing is to identify players that we could buy that would go straight into the team and actually come here.  The positive on this point is that we have a manager that may be able to attract them, particularly if they are from Europe.

One thing that is starting to concern me is how we have gravitated to very much a fixed match day squad.  It is the same group of players that are being rotated.  There are players outside of this group that are not getting a look in, even on the bench.  What must their attitude be like right now.  Even if it is only to shake up the complacency, I think there should be more rotation.  Is this why we have seen few young players come through the ranks over the last few years.

Sorry I did not know he was injured.
I have not seen too many not injured suggestions though.
What about Caroll from West Ham, i am sure he could get injured for the rest of the season if we get him.

We need players in too many positions I just can't see us getting what we need in January, in my opinion we need:

Goalkeeper
Left back
2 centre halves (Richards needs to be moved to right back)
2 defensive midfielders
Striker

I think it might be worth Garde seeing who he could get on loan from Arsenal as well I am sure Wenger would help him out.

thought we should have gone for him in the summer, good shout.

Besic too at Everton is a tidy midfielder with a bit of presence about him, struggling to get in ahead of the likes of Barry but would be a level above the likes of Gardner and Westwood
