A very good point and more importantly a clean sheet. Small steps.

Still as well as we competed Man. City still missed two sitters, if Aguero was playing that was a 0-2 win.

The team selection was good but still don't think we have enough in the final third to win 9-10 games.

If we can  nick a point at Everton like today and beat Watford we're right back in this.

Agree with Soccer. It was a performance that had grit and organisation that I think few pundits thought Garde would bring.

If we can get to January picking up 10-12 points from here, which is what 9 games? and then sign a striker that will basically put the ball away, we will be fine.

It is *so* telling, just simply picking better players, organised into better shape.

In the post match interview, I thought Remi's English would be perfect which it isn't, but is completely understandable.
It's early days but he's done everything right.

As everyone says, isn't it amazing the not cutting it new players dropped/frozen out that just step up:

MacDonald it seems now doesn't see himself as a manager (did it ever come out why he left Swindon?) and he's had success developing youth so maybe I should leave that there. Maybe the same players low in confidence looked poor in his week of training, though what does that say about his coaching, motivational  or selection skills?

But in much the same way Sherwood's 'shackles off chest out' basic tactics/Mr motivator  made Lambert look very poor, it seems Remi has the potential to show the pundits that Tactics Tim wasn't as unfair a nick name as we'd hoped for so long...

I watched a fans chatshow thing on YouTube that commented on Sherwood's confidence being his greatest strength and his biggest weakness. I thought that an excellent point. We all mess up, but you've got to be able to see it, acknowledge it, and put it right.

So yes, Remi, now liberate Libor too?

This is how good things can start.

We actually looked like a football team team today, for the first time in a long time.
And a word of praise for Clark who takes all kinds of stick, but was magnificent today.

Onwards and upwards.

Let's all just remember that the number of teams who've ever stayed up after a start like ours is around three I think - in the premier league era

Every word of his post match interviews has been delivered maturely. What a welcome change to "my team is boring", or "I don't know what else to do" type comments. Or those delivered in the third person. And some were questioning his ability to communicate.

That is not a bottom of the table team.

It only is with a sit manager.

It's one after four points from 11 games (Palace). Will just make staying up all the more impressive.

For me, it was clear from the team selection and the first 20 minutes that Garde knows how he wants his team to play. Sherwood didn't seem to have a clue, constantly chopping and changing. So we're looking at 4-2-3-1, each player knowing which position they are competing for.

There is definitely a good player in Vertout he just needs the support and confidence.

I've lost count of the times I thought Villa were about to turn the corner..Usually when I've thought that they have dropped the knut on me , smashed me in the balls and have proceeded to kick the shit out of me. I just hope that this time I won't have to endure such a beating. Don't do twitter but is it hashtag  feeling positive that you say on occasions  like this ?

However Palace were clear with about 6 games to so it's nowhere near impossible.

Exactly. They didn't just stay up, they did so very comfortably.  Teams who have four points after 11 games tend to go down because they're shit. I just think we've been mismanaged and a strong leader will see us fine. Five points is nothing in November.

In the same season 13/14 Sunderland had 8 points from 15 games (5 points from safety) and still stayed up with 2 games to spare.

Well I've been less interested in villa of late than I've ever been since I was 9. So I hope you're all right.
