Organised. What a novelty. Keep it up, Villa.

Probably helps not having Dim-Wit-Tim at the sideline, coaching a mix of cricket and ladies synchronised swimming...

Is everyone else's commentary in French? It's a sign....

The commentary was, then the adverts are a mix of dutch, and well.... Schteve McLaren voice overs.

Mine's in English, I think I've taken a different route to the rest of you.  It's crashed since half time though, hopefully it'll be back in a minute.

the interchanging of hutton and bacuna and amavi and richardson is working ok. Should take off Gestede or Gabby for Grealish or Ayew to give it more of a spark. Soton are there for the taking but you can see them winning 1-0

I think Gabby is actually stretching them a bit. When we play it into space for him, their defenders are hurriedly booting it into touch.

Gestede might get us something from a set piece, but from open play he's been pretty anonymous. His movement is poor.

We look alright  :D
Gestede came close from the corner, hopefully K Mac brings on the likes of Gil, Grealish and Sinclair in the 2nd half.

Hutton applauding a crap pass?

No, applauding the idea Sanchez had. Hutton should have committed to the run rather than halting

Amavi and Sanchez look impressive so far

Gestede and Bacuna don't look premier league level at all
not at game just listening to talk sport and following updates on here. Bit confused. Fans at the game giving Gestede pelters. Reporter at the game saying he is "unplayable" and Saints defenders can't handle him. WTF?

He's not . They can!
According to the reporters they' ain't!

Nope, they definitely are.

Tactically this is easily the best we've looked all season, everyone looks like they know their job.  There's a little bit of a lack of quality around the box but we've looked threatening at a few corners and Bacuna had a good chance (that he created himself) that he hit straight at the keeper.  Nothing spectacular but all the evidence you need that the squad is better than they were looking.

Positives: we're 0-0, should be winning, under Sherwood we'd be 1-0 down to a late goal. Let's see how the second half now goes.

The starting XI seems disappointing, with  a championship midfield and the most talented players on the bench.
But with which formation are we playing?
4-4-2? 4-3-3? Others?

It's been dull and largely uninspired, but we look quite solid at the back for a change, and as the game has gone on we've actually had the better of the play.

All things considered, this isn't bad. A set piece looks like our best bet. We can win this.

Would agree with that, been very solid at centre half so far too.

Definitely will need changes in the second half - cant see Rico, Gabby or Sanchez lasting the 90 mins.

Hopefully the artisans we have on can keep it up until a couple of artists come on later to give it the coup de grace

Was thinking the same thing.

A solid 442 where everyone knows their job, hardly ground breaking tactics wise, but we look an improved team.
