That game in 76 at the sty was one of the best away supports ever if not the best.
Tilton road packed to the rafters villa fans on the roof and up the floodlights of the Tilton big crew by the scoreboard and railway end with villa to totally out sung em all game even when losing.
My one eyed blue nose mate said to me the next day " I've never seen support like that "
Bullshit, we've never taken more than 5k to The Sty according some bloke SHA. Meanwhile,  back in the day, up to 20k of them would regularly descend on VP in one irresistible force claiming half of The Holte, half of The Witton Lane stand and the whole Witton End.

Have a look at the YouTube footage of the 1987 game at the Sty, there was more than 5k in the first pen of the Tilton, we were crammed in like sardines across three pens whilst the few thousand noses there lolled about with no one near them.
I was there PW, as I recall the crowd was around 27k and I reckon we had at least 10k in the Tilton.
and more in that uncovered corner of the kop next to the tilton

I was kind of classing that as the third pen, that was supposed to be the 'no mans land' between the two sets of fans but it was that rammed That they had to open it, at the time it was laughed off but it was hideously overcrowded.

They had 45,000 against us in Feb '68, but there were was a massive Villa contingent if memory serves.

Cheers adrenachrome, glad to see I'm not yet ready for the glue factory.

Never seen that 11v11 site before either.

My ailing memory tells me they had around 46k in the 1975-76 season where we had the whole of the Tilton ( lost 3-2). There must have been 10-12k Villa there that day as we had fans in the Railway end too.

Your memory seems to be functioning well, Pat Mac.

I thought that deal was for the Holte Suite, not the Holte Pub?

I met an elderly nose whilst on my holidays....He was rather courteous towards the Villa and told me that he regularly went to Blues one week and then Villa the next.
We had a good long chat about the state of Midlands football and I asked why he did not go to matches anymore....he said that at his age it was a bit of a trek from Solihull, so I asked what was the last game he went to...he took a good 5 mins to think about it and said 1956 FA Cup Final v Man City ( I think Bert Trautmann broke his neck in this game).....then he says sadly "the Blose lost" :)

still he wished the Villa all the best.

Can't be too many Blues fans left that went to the cup final.  My Dad was a life long Villa fan and obtained a ticket for match but then couldn't get one for the our final the year later.

yeah he was moving on in years and had badly sun-burnt part of his face/lips staying in the sun too long....silly sod.

we started talking after he spotted my end of season paperback special H&V on the bar as I was refreshing my glass with another cold beverage...a nice Bloser...for a change.
