I'm sure I read years ago that Lescott grew up admiring McGrath at the Villa, so those barbs will probably carry a bit more sting than a bluffer like Collywobbles accusing you of lack of effort. To be honest, I don't think it is a case of Lescott not trying, I just think his legs have gone. Even at his best, he wasn't a centre half who could read the game exceptionally well. But he had a turn of pace to get him out of trouble. He doesn't have that now.

And professional athletes are just physically strong, especially at the elite level.
