Gueye and Amavi both looked extremely impressive.

Gueye is a very good passer of the ball, works very hard, and I noticed he fights like fuck to get the ball back when he loses it. Very impressed indeed.

I mean this in a totally non-negative way, but Amavi will be somewhere like Chelsea inside three years.

He reminds me of Evra. I have no doubt he'll be off in 2-3 years for £20m plus. Solid defender and loves to get forward. If he develops into a consistent supply down the left to Gestede or Kozak he'll be sensational.

Good to hear that Richards, Gueye and Amavi sound like they've settled well.

Another thing to consider apart from all the new signings is the mindset  and confidence of the players. Sherwood and Richards have mentioned the winning mentality and it will take a while for some of the players to get this and their confidence after what they have been through with Lambert. I bet some games under Lambert they actually dreaded  being pick for games.

Richards - 8 - Can't have asked for much more from our new captain. A couple of wobbly moments, notably the first half stab across the box, but in the second half, in particular, he was excellent. His pace and power will be a huge asset and he won far more in the air than I expected him too, which is promising.

Clark - 8 - My MOTM - Marginally better than Richards because he basically had no wobbly moments. Tying him down to a long term deal was a very good piece of business as he looks to have really matured in the last 12 months.
Although I agree with a lot your comments I would give Richards MOTM. You say Clark didn't have any wobbly moments but he nearly cost us a goal by weirdly trying to play offside and Richards weight was all on his back foot hence the stab.
Hard to be too critical as both played really well, but I felt Richards commanded slightly more than Clark.

Third  first game of the season win in a row. Let's not get carried away yet!

Amavi is the son of John Gidman and the grandson of Charlie Aitken.   The latest in a line of full backs to be adored by the Villa Park faithful. I am absolutely delighted by this win. TSMs 1 and 2 would have lost that game.   You just wait until they bed in, then you will see some damage inflicted. Only another 35 points and we should be safe.

Barton in comms and Gestede in his post match interview referred to Westwood as Kieron and Alex respectively. Poor non-descript Ashley.

I hope that Sherwood doesn't persevere with 4-3-2-1 if it's Gabby as a lone striker, it just won't work.  I think Gestede with Ayew and Grealish behind him could work though.

Reading the report on the Times web site, it's like Bournemouth were a creative, passing side and we were the hopeful lumpers.

That's not even remotely the way it looked to me.

I think he'll play different systems for different games. I didn't like how we set up in the first half at all today, but he felt it was the right approach to stop them from playing. I'm sure it will evolve and will differ based on the opponent. Once we started to play with it in the second half we looked really quite good at times.

It's typical media that though. There's this general assumption that Bournemouth are Barcelona light, which is nonsense.

The Times sells well in Bournemouth and environs PW.  They have to pander to their readership.  I am sure the Sunday Mercury will do the same for us. (hollow laughter).
