Gary Shaw for sure, brought up near me in Kinghurst and would have been world class but for that w**ker Bowyer

Would Billy Walker count?  Born in Wednesbury.

Maybe if the 'Greater Birmingham' idea had gone through!! If we are talking surrounding areas then Duncan Edwards would have to be up there.

I agree it's probably shaw, or Duncan Edwards potentially if you include the wider area

I've made this point before, but the area under performs hugely compared to most other conurbations: London, merseyside, Manchester and Tyneside. Pick any one of those and the list would make this one look really light.

It's a crying shame Gary Shaw's career was cut so short by injury. He'd have been a world star. Instead, his ability is barely remembered by anybody outside the Midlands.

Another one for Gary.
Why has no one mentioned mentioned Garry Pendrey? He must be a proper Brummie because he played for the team that carries the city's name.

It's not a very impressive list overall, really.

It's lucky we don't have an Athletic Bilbao-like policy!

Nice bloke Gary Pendrey, I met him once.  Of course, one Swallow doesn't make a summer.

Mark Walters had so much natural ability. Should  have achieved more and not done that silly dance in front of the Holte.

Didn't the noses have a few Brummies in the side like Frain, Clarkson, Hopkins and Gayle when they won the Leyland Daf trophy? How come people bang on about Celtic winning the European cup with a team full of Glaswegians but forget to mention Small Heath's legendary boys of '91?

I dont suppose too many of us saw Duncan Edwards play but wasnt he supposed to be a hybrid of Gerrard and Guillett.

Is the comparison with Gerrard that in his last season Duncan Edwards also failed to make it to the FA cup final?
