Ipswich '87 was good. It really felt like a new beginning. Also, I had just left school so started going away regularly. Very hot and a very packed away end if I remember right.

West Ham at home in 1976, 3-0, setting us up for the wonderful football that we'd see at Villa Park that season.

Seconded IP - I thought it was 4-0 for some reason - also the first outing for the ICF - top day all round ;-)

It was 4-0 WW and we murdered them. IIRC  it was 0-0 at half time.

A baking hot day on the old (mixed) Witton End. Lots of bare chested WH fans there who I learned  years later were their ICF.

Best was Sheffield Wednesday away under Atkinson. I fucking loved that side.

Worst was losing 3-0 at home to Spurs in 86-7. Fuck me, that was depressing. We looked relegated after one match.

From what I remember 3-0 flattered us.

I still think the Champions of England losing at home to Notts County opening game takes some beating. That the Champions of Europe then got twatted a year later at home to Sunderland showed that nothing is beyond the Villa!

Two awful opening days that I'd erased from the memory banks! Notts County were newly promoted too.

The thing I recall most from the Sunderland game was the reaction of their fans when the European Cup was paraded around the edge of the pitch before the game. From the Holte it looked like every one of them was applauding. They have been my favourite opposing fans since.

Didn't we get twatted 4-0 at Old Trafford on the first day the season before? Ah, the good old Graham Turner years.

The Sheff Wed 3-2 away win had everything. It was a brilliant day.

Even though we lost the 2-1 game against Leeds when we got back into Div 1 in 1975 was very special as well.
