That’s why as much as much as I’m no fan of Richards I’m also not going to ever blame him for wanting every penny of his contract. We offered it, he signed it. We had a chance to move him on and get out of the deal and we decided to keep him. I said that directly to Wyness on Twitter. We had a player who we got on a free transfer, who was costing us £60K a week but couldn't play because of his knees. He had the chance to go to West Ham, thus getting rid of a £3m per year burden on the wage bill, but we wouldn't let him go because West Ham wouldn't give us a nominal fee? Well, that showed them who was boss! No wonder that whole time was such an utter mess, with a chancer for an owner and a cretin for a CEO.

My recollection is he didn't even do one game a week. Saw him come on in preseason at Shrewsbury and he was fatter than me. And I'm a fat bastard.

I recall two of his games for us at that time. There was a cup game v Luton was it under RDM? Also Steve Bruce's first game at home v Wolves. To say he was dreadful would be an understatement. Pub level and then some.
