Southampton caught us out repeatedly with a ball over the top. They sussed that our defence is slow to turn, and exploited it brilliantly. I noticed very early on that Ron Vlaar was having to concentrate so hard on running fast enough to defend, that he couldn't even look up! Nathan Baker is due back and has been a player that is better at this - in these situations he wears an expression on his face that tells you is is absolutely certain he is going to make that ball his. I hope he is back soon.

That said, Arsenal won't play like that even if they think of it, and I no longer care what Burnley do! (Well I do a bit!)

That will only improve in the transfer market and one of the things Sherwood alluded to when he first came in. Not enough 'leaders'. The back 4 are very quiet and nobody to roll up their sleeves and give a rollicking on the pitch when needed.

Today's result could be a huge blessing in disguise because I'd wager Arsenal have been planning to go at us in exactly the same way.

I thought we looked good until they scored. A relief to be safe but a reminder that there's lots of work to be done in the summer. What hurts a lot is the fact the boggies will now finish above us. Simply unacceptable for our club

Quote of the day at around 1.15pm: "It's not that you really don't want to know the score. Or even you really, really don't want to know the score. Not even you really, really, really don't want to know the score. It's more that you really, really, really, really don't want to know the score."

At about 1.25pm, I left my half-eaten dinner and went for a walk outside to calm down a bit.

Just got home. Complete and utter horse shit. Play 11 reserves next week and spend a fortnight sorting them out, Tim.

C'mon Des, I feel your pain, Long journey and all but you're one of the most positive on here.  Bathe in the relief, you deserve it.

I thought we played like a team who had their mind on a F A Cup final .As someone mentioned earlier ,we played like Hull did against us last season just before their cup final.

Yes I do wonder if they thought they were safe already. They shouldn't have done.

As Koeman said, we played an absurdly high line and left loads of space behind us and you have to punish that. It's only workable if you apply a lot of pressure on the ball.

Let's just hope it's one of those things. Might have been a timely reminder not to be complacent in two weeks or over the Summer

Absolutely atrocious performance, but do you know what, we're safe and I honestly think this will be the last time we have to fight against relegation for many a year. Let's put this league season behind us and go into next season in the Premier League as FA Cup holders.
We can do it!

Fans were amazing players were embarrassing.

Fans were mostly pissed up and sunburnt

I diverted into Swindon Designer Outlet to avoid listening to Spurs v Hull on the car radio. Bought clothes that I probably didn't need but it was better than being stressed out on the motorway. Retail therapy does work

The best two things about today:

1. Staying up
2. All the sunburned faces on the coach home

In fact, those could be in either order. Brilliant

Yeah I thought the same. It had a happy ending but todays results could have been very ugly if the other teams around us hadn't been so utterly crap as well.
