FA told Graham Taylor not to pick ‘too many’ black players for England
According to a new book Pitch Black.

There's no suggestion that he followed the instructions, but pretty damming for the FA. (Yet again.)

I think him picking Carlton Palmer probably settles that argument.

Yet another impossible to prove either way rumour, GT has said he doesnt recall the conversation but does recall the occasion - either way Sir G was having none of it.
Just someone trying to increase his book sales - and it isnt Graham Taylor.

You beat me to it. I reckon the story was twisted and he was actually told to not pick Carlton Palmer too many times.

The Paul Davis one was always a funny one to me.

Not that he was world class necessarily. But he was better than plenty of the muck that got a game in midfield for England over the years.

Very good player Paul Davis. Very good indeed.

Who he played for is irrelevant on the claims themselves. If you read up on him, he apparently left football because he felt the banter in the dressing rooms was incredibly racist to him. And it probably was, I remember being in school in the late 80's and one of the older black lads was nicknamed chalky and even had gym teachers calling him by it. He seemed to revel in it though so I suppose everyone felt it was ok, however imagine what would happen nowadays if this happened. And look at Ron's faux pas on TV even though he was one of the champions of multi-racial footballing teams.

However I would dispute the guys claims of the top names in football abusing him when the highest level he played was a handful of games in Division 3,

I was just trying to shoe-horn a pun on his brother's name into the thread
