Just listened to the commentary on R5. Childishly, I was happy that Alan Green was commentating when Delph scored.

The thing that winds me up about Liverpool is the sanctimony. I think Barney Ronay once said that LFCTV was like a religious channel, and Liverpool fans have that in a way that no other club on earth has. The strange, glaze-eyed seriousness, the reverently hushed tone, the way they always always always say 'Liverpool Football Club' in full, as if not to say it would be to imply that you're not serious enough about how much you love 'Liverpool Football Club' - it makes me feel a little ill. United plastics are many things, but they're not that.

I certainly don't recall Liverpool players ganging up and bellowing in referees' faces on the rare occasion a decision went against them, or the likes of Bob Paisley bullying referees and members of the media. Neither do I recall seeing Liverpool fans celebrating on our pitch most seasons.

Liverpool and their fans did have a certain amount of arrogance amongst them, and considering the force that they were I suppose to an extent that would come naturally. However, "United's" players, management and their "fans" took arrogance to a whole new level.

I recall reading a chapter in a book ( Saturday's Boys, I think it was called - must be 25 years old) where our very own Simon Inglis described how, in one of his first games as a journo, he asked Paisley a question which Paisley clearly didn't like and he tried to humiliate Inglis in front of the other, more sycophantic, journalists in the room. I hate Liverpool, I hate the myth that follows them, I hate a good proportion of their supporters and Sunday reinforced that feeling.

The only Liverpool supporters I saw on Saturday that were anything but decent were a small group of scallies on Wembley Way waving 'Don't Buy The Sun' posters in front of coppers faces and chanting 'murderers' at them. The police were remarkably tolerant, they were spoiling for a fight and it took a couple of Liverpool supporters to point out to them that it was South Yorkshire police who were the problem and not the Met.

I always had the utmost respect for the on-field Liverpool; off the field anything but

Anyone who was at Anfield in 1977 when we beat them emember the awful way they behaved.
Bricked the coaches on the way in; ambushed on Stanley Park; attacked with fireworks on the terraces (with Police watching); fighting our way back to the coaches past the Littlewoods Pools building to find most windows smashed for a jouney home in November. The vile racism towards Black Villa fans etc etc.

At VP I recall them chucking a lad through a plate glass shop window. Thankfully they seemd far more reasonable on Sunday

That's true up to a point but modern gloryhunters will never get football supporting right while your 'proper' Manc knows they're part of the leisure industry.

Have just read this thread with glee over the week and all of you have just echoed my thoughts, nothing I can really add except THANK YOU to the team, manager, staff and fellow Villains for restoring us to where we belong. It was so good to share it with my eldest before he heads to Cambridge Uni and the land of Brian Green.

Once Premier League safety is hopefully secured I will be able to enjoy May 30th again with my lad.

Time to put this thread to bed?

We've got big(ger) fish to fry on Saturday. We should all concentrate fully on that now.

What a chant. 'Who gives a f**k, it's only the cup -  on a five year deal we've signed Jordan Henderson up'!
