We have just tested this against A group of Liverpool fans in Ye Olde Swiss Cottage in
London after a days drinking, and I have to tell you that there is no doubt this song works! On a record, it may sounded a bit dreary, but put it in a group of fans on the piss, it has a whole new life!

If we win tomorrow, this might really take off! Give it a go - you might like it!
First problem...can anyone actually remember the words? Instantly forgettable.

It's comes out as a lead & follow - so only one person has to remember the words! In our case it was Cheltenham Lion!

Just random lines then Aston Villa that's who! I think the Liverpool fans liked it so much they'll be singing it at Anfield & claiming it as theirs before it takes off at Villa Park!

Although - choosing 'who conquered Europe in 82?' as one of our lines wasn't the most impressive choice against Liverpool of all teams!

Who were the first in claret & blue?
Who formed the football league for you?
May father said there's a team for you
Our children will support them too

To be fair - the one thing it definitely isn't, is hard to remember!

Well I listened to the song on YouTube again last night and it was stuck it my head...I'm going to have to blame you that I only got a few hours of sleep with "Aston Villa That's Who" going around in my head! ;)

In the end, how obvious was it that this was just a set up for the big YNWA? I don't know why we ever worried for a moment about our choice of song being an issue - it was clearly irrelevant. They wanted YNWA before the KO, so they had to offer us something, and they were complely unconcerned as to what it was because they were never really doing anything with it anyway!

Our song was played about 20 minutes before kick off, whilst everyone was still coming in, and then we had a long of ceremony (like the flags coming on) & announcements. Then - when everyone was ready to be suitably awestruck, we got YNWA.

As Arsenal don't have a song either, I doubt there'll be any fanfare about each club having to have a song for the final.

I remember at Arsenal a couple of years ago they played The Wonder of You complete with lyrics and karaoke style bouncing ball on the big screen and it was very much by order of the committee and with the approval of key stakeholders and it was super cringeworthy.

Earlier in this thread, I mentioned that our strength as fans is spontaneity. YNWA, like many other club anthems, is a set piece, but what Villa fans showed on Sunday was raw emotion, and that can't be beaten. Give me the "85th Minute Roar", as it will henceforth be known, over staged, choreographed, manufactured scarf-waving 'passion' any day.

Somebody who knows what they're doing should find the 85th Minute Roar, make it into a little clip and distribute it far and wide as a meme among Villa fans, just to remind us all what power we can have if we only think to use it. Fuck anthems.

That roar would make a brilliant ringtone.

I must confess the 85th minute roar passed me by. I was probably too busy pondering how with all the money the spent on Wembley they managed to install clocks that kept such slow time.

I didn't notice anything either. What was it and why did it happen ?

I did, it was awe-inspiring. Anyway, our song HAS to be Hi Ho Silver Lining, nothing else really comes close to getting everybody going.  I agree with amfy though, the 'That's Who' nonsense works quite well as a chant, as the bewildered Scouser in the Swiss Cottage could attest from a drunk Chelts and Amfy bellowing it in his face!

I think the roar was in the 89th minute. The last 10 minutes went so slow.

It came across quite clearly on the telly. A huge roar swept through our end and the camera panned onto Villa fans jumping up and down as if unable to contain their excitement. It was as if victory was a formality. Then I realised there was five minutes left. It was bizarre.

On the "Aston Villa That's Who" song, the tune is catchy for a chant, but I don't like the "That's Who" bit. It sounds a bit naff. "Aston Villa FC" might sound a little better.

I remember the roar.  Very loud and moving.  It was the roar that put a force field in front of our goal.  Liverpool were never going to score.  In fact, I'd go as far as to say that although time went slower I was more relaxed about the outcome than I ever am.  It was to be our day, we knew it, they knew it.  The roar rubber stamped it.

Is there any coverage online of the 85th minute roar?

I recorded the BBC highlight show but I'd love to watch the whole game from start to finish with all the build up too if possible.
