taxis
« on: March 24, 2015, 03:35:14 PM »
I have decided to phase out driving to VP  I would like to get a taxi from New St to the ground but what about a taxi back there? Is there a taxi rank within walking distance after the game, far from the madding crowd? Advice appreciated.

We had a nightmare on Saturday, trying to get a cab back from the corner of Nelson Road/Witton Road to the Jewellery Quarter. We booked one, waited for 20 mins, phoned back up and was told to wait another 20 mins and it still never came. In the end, we got into a private hire car that we hadn't booked but who's driver was prepared to take us to the pub

Another train from New Street to Witton, and back again, would be easier, quicker and cheaper.

It's only about £2.50 return isn't it? So both ways i'd have thought that was cheaper even for 6 than a taxi both ways (not sure how much a taxi is but assuming over a tenner each way)?

Plenty of taxis outside of the Aston Social and the Tavern but you will need to wait for an hour, an hour and a half for the traffic to clear Aston Hall Road, if you want to get straight off I'd walk to either Aston or Witton stations and get the train back to New Street.

Depends on the time you're thinking of getting to the ground in terms of how close you'll get to it to be dropped off. You'll still make it as far as the church fir the Holte/Trinity or Witton Station for North Stand/Witton Lane

As soon as the traffic cordon is lifted there's a line of black cabs on Trinity Road but the traffic is still bad and you're better off getting the train back.

Our coach took an hour to get from the ground to Aston station on Saturday, next time we'll go for a drink at the let the traffic die down.

Or meet the coach a bit further from the ground?

They have to drop off and pick up at designated areas.

Don't home coaches park in the smaller car park next to the away coaches?

Yes but we first had to wait for the Swansea coaches to leave, to be fair it was our first one from London so we'll learn, we should have had drink in the Lions lounge, traffic going up the Litchfield Road towards town didn't look to bad but heading back to the M6 junction (which was closed) was choca.
