I can't believe there's no points deduction for that pitch, a mate who was down there watching said it was positively dangerous, a ball pitched in exactly the same place could ether scuttle along the ground and take three bounces to reach the keeper or alternatively smack the likes of Wright in the chin. It's not like Hove hasn't got previous for producing dubious pitches.

Chopra certainly seemed to be making his feelings known to the umpire after the ball which got him out in the second innings shot through like the proverbial grub hunter. Most unVarun-like. Dougie Brown didn't say much in his post match interview, and I suppose his comments about the wicket two years ago may have a bearing.

Not much doubt that Sussex are our bogie team in recent times, inflicting defeats, injuries and farcical declarations upon us in equal measure.

I really like Woakes so it's good to see he's close to being back, I think he'll be the natural replacement from Broad in the England squad pretty soon.

Broad bowled superbly against the Kiwis, with Wood and Stokes also now looking very good I think Woakes will have to wait for a fair while (or injuries) to get back into the Test team.

I think he's more likely to step into Anderson's role as the bowler moving the ball about early on when Jimmy calls it a day.  I'm still hoping Finn will come good as he is the one most likely to replace Broad.
