Sad to hear about the death of Jack. One of the nicest men you could wish to meet was "Mr Villa" When i was a kid i used to work for the Villa on match days and reserve games and got to know Jack fairly well. I once helped him in the Holte end scoreboard at a reserve game and i was amazed at his knowledge of all things Villa

There are so many stories. One of the last times I saw him  was at a reserve game at Bescot. He must have been about 90 then but he looked at me and said "You're getting older."

I'd take 96 years and I'd certainly take being around the club as much as he did.
RIP Jack. A gentleman.

Really sad to hear this, he was good friends with my mom and dad from years back and kept in touch right up till they died. He was a lovely man and over the years did every job you can imagine  at Villa Park. Used to get me match day programmes when I was a kid and I've never forgotten it.
RIP, Jack. Up the Villa!

Ah such a shame, the bloke is an Aston Villa legend.

He was the guide on a ground tour I did in the late 90s, he was pushing 80 then.

Hope he gets a good tribute on Saturday.

Jack Watts is my Grandad- my friend signposted me to this thread.

Thanks for the lovely comments. Iam probably the only member of the family not into football (although Grandad never held it against me!!) so I am genuinely overwhelmed by all of the messages and stories about him on here and other sites. He clearly was a great man at the Villa. Thank you for the respect and love shown to such a wonderful man.

I met him a few times.  He would talk for as long as you wanted to talk about his love for the club.  So proud was he of his association for so many years too. There would be a book or two out of him had he chronicled all those stories.

Are there going to be black armbands tomorrow. There should be for a club stalwart such as Jack.

emlouwat - You must be so proud of your grandfather - I met Jack a few times during my 50+ years of supporting this great club - He was one of the most gracious and honest people I have ever met - yes a true gentleman.
My thoughts are with your family
sincere condolences from Merseyside

It's people like Jack that put my misgivings about this great club to shame - he probably never used the term "role-model" in his life but I hope I can be a tenth of the Villa man he has been  - hope there is some mention on Saturday
