Hepburn-Murphy Becomes Second Youngest Villan

Quote
When Rushian Hepburn-Murphy stepped on to the Stadium of Light pitch in the 83rd minute of today's four nil victory, he became our second youngest ever player to wear the shirt.

The 16 year old's seven odd minute debut cameo, saw him usurp Gareth Barry as the second youngest to wear the shirt as he made his debut at the tender age of 17 years and 67 days old, but the record is still held by a Jimmy Brown who debuted at 15 years and 349 days old.

He is however the youngest to grace the pitch since the inception of the Premier League.

At 16 isn't he too young to be wearing a shirt with a gaming company's logo splashed across the front? ;-)

Ha ha, good point

The rule applies to the youth teams but it is an interesting point. Should the ref have asked for it to be covered up due to his age? Like when Watford turned up at Villa Park with the sponsors on for a TV game. On a more serious note it is good he was involved. Sends out a positive message to the young players at the club and keeps the old guard on their toes at the same time.

FA Cup game 1983. They used black tape to cover it, much better than the red tape the FA use.

Never given it a thought before. If you go and buy a replica shirt in the smallest junior size does it still have logos if they betting or alcohol related? Is there any ruling ? Do some clubs have a policy of not including them while others carry on ?

Fair play for having the young lads on the bench for experience, I did however think it was a little indulgence of TS to bring him on.

maybe, yes. But it also sends out a message hopefully, that if you're good enough, you're old enough.

He will have had a brilliant day yesterday which will enhance his desire to want that experience on a more regular basis.
He did look terrified (and about 12!) but I think he actually did more than Weimann!
Good to see him get that tackle in too!

Norman Ashe is the second youngest player to wear the clubs colours in the top division at 16years 48days. Jimmy Brown is of course the youngest.

and here is Norm scoring for England (7 shirt) in a schoolboys international against the Germans in 1959. Alan Baker, another Villa player to be scored as well.

If we can be 4-0 up with 10 minutes to go in more matches - he can bring on who he likes! We'd all be happy if that was the case!
