I'll tell you what, Hutton's not getting back in the side. I am delighted for Bacuna. He was superb today. Who'd have thought that we have a RB making easy work of playing LB, and a right midfielder looking like Carlos Alberto.

I was going to post a clip of Pharrell Williams's Happy. but I won't risk a lawsuit from the Gaye family lawyers.

That song's been on my internal jukebox for a while this evening.

The good thing about that is we have options depending on the type of game it is. Playing City away - Hutton starts for his solidity. Playing Swansea at home - chuck Cafu...er I mean Bacuna in.

Goals

Thanks, Leeg.
Sunderland's defending was pathetic.

Coupled with some lovely stuff from us off course. That first goal is simply lovely. Great ball by Cleverley and a terrific flick by Charlie

For us, we played superb attacking football in the first half. 4 goals but it should have been 6 really. Fair play to Sherwood, tactically I thought he was far too ambitious in his team selection but it worked brilliantly. We pressurised their keeper, defenders and midfielders high up the pitch and reaped the benefits from that. I was a little disappointed with us in the second half and they created some decent chances. But the football played in the first 45 mins will live long in the memory.

Agreed, it was an amazing 45 minutes. Once again we show how much more we want it and teams just can't compete with our desire. Benteke and Gabby were lethal today, both seem to have their confidence back and are finally getting some decent service. Credit to Bacuna for his assists and N'Zogbia for that great run and pass to Gabby.

Sunderland are in a right mess. They looked okay until the first goal but thereafter a complete shambles. I'm struggling to see how they can recover from today, certainly the poorest side we've played this season. They might feel hard done by for not getting a penalty for the Clark hand ball or from hitting the post but overall they were completely disjointed and lacking any confidence. It would be a shame for their fans if they went down but on that performance they deserve it.

The league table is a more welcoming sight for us where for the first time this month I'm looking at the teams above rather than below.

Sunderland are precisely where we were at the end of the Hull game.

But with even fewer "cup finals" to turn it round.

Correct which is why they may not be able to arrest their alarming slide.

Cant remember the last time I watched MOTD on a weekend.

I'm looking forward to it.

I'm looking forward to Villa Park next Saturday as well.

I'm looking forward to a semi-final.

I'm looking forward to all things Villa, something I also haven't done for a very long time!!!

I can watch MOTD for a change, instead of shunning it like a woman you slept with years ago while pissed.

I'm going to watch Game Of The Day on Sky, and then MOTD for good measure. Days like this haven't come along too often recently.

I just noticed that really helped our goal difference as well. Might come in handy later in the season. Its not good but now its the least bad of the bottom 5.

Modest as I am, I have to take credit for us winning today.  Instead of sitting here praying for a result and getting depressed reading the match threads, I got off my fat arse and cut the grass which takes just about an hour.  After that I did my late neighbours which takes about an hour and a quarter but took me the best part of two hours today, all being the first cuts of the season.  I then went to do the grass of my elderly neighbours which usually takes a half hour as Jim has a ride-on mower but I couldn't get the feckin thing going, I flooded it.  The moral for me is: When the Villa are playing, get of your arse and do something.

Back on topic. That was a fabulous cross for Benteke's second goal.  What joy to see free-flowing football.  Sweet beer again tonight.
