At the end of the day & after over 3.5 seasons of absolute dross. We are entitled to utter joy. No one got hurt on the pitch and the biggest story is Delph getting some love bites. If the club get a £100K fine they still make a profit from TV rights.

The lion has woken from his slumber.

Ain't that the truth.

I haven't seen any. Perhaps you'd like to point them out.
Certainly.

"To be honest its perfect for the media. A story other than villa winning."

"I wouldn't put anything past those sanctimonious tossers to turn this into a Villa witch hunt, that would be right up their street and be completely ignoring the seat throwing , far more dangerous and menacing.  The Meaning Evil and WM will probably have a field day if we let them."

"The media have very selective memories and no mention will be made of numerous pitch invasions by Manchester United fans at Villa Park. The whole episode is grist to the mill of the bourgeois football haters who take their opinions and outrage against life in general from places like the Daily Mail."

"If they did they wouldn't have been carrying on like we were the Midlands manifestation of IS"

"As for the righteous indignation and centre stage "look at me I am outraged" posture of the media and its commentators, we football fans must take the same sort of stand that gay, muslim, disabled, black, old, fat, catholic minorities have done to protect themselves against stereotypical prejudice.   An event like yesterday declares open season for the Lawrensons and Linekers of the world to build their careers to even greater undeserved heights by implying that people who go to football matches are somehow inferior and deeply flawed and should be subjected to constraints over and above the law of the land.   Every minority has the same problem, gay people are called qu**r, muslims are pa**s, disabled people are cripples and so on.   We football fans are portrayed as either active or latent hooligans."

"If it was a non-league or lower division club, the likes of Lawrenson would have hailed it as the "magic of the cup".  Because it's Villa its seen as a "national scandal taking football back to the 80's". "

"The media were using this opportunity to subconsciously refer to the nightmares of Hillsborough and Heysel, and instill themselves into the general population. The repercussions will now be that Villa will start to be thought of along the same lines as Millwall, will kill off any notion of safe standing (that Villa have voiced support for) and influence any FA punishment the club gets in the next few weeks. "
"We are only weeks away from a very tight and probably dirty General Election.   The cynic in me suggests that the demonizing of the great unwashed taking to their grubby bosoms the footy football thugs will play well in the cut glass and stewed prunes belt."

So, basically, anything that smacks of football supporters defending themselves against, and complaining about ,the sort of media slurs which we've become used to over the decades. To you, that's a persecution complex.

Certainly. (snip quotes)

To be honest I agree with most of those comments. Only one seems vaguely paranoid and I suspect that was a touch tongue in cheek.

Some of the comments I've heard and read in the media about yesterday can be summed up thus: Losing their grip on reality.

The media were using this opportunity to subconsciously refer to the nightmares of Hillsborough and Heysel, and instill themselves into the general population. The repercussions will now be that Villa will start to be thought of along the same lines as Millwall, will kill off any notion of safe standing (that Villa have voiced support for) and influence any FA punishment the club gets in the next few weeks.

Now who's for another 5:30 kick off?

That's ridiculous. The media - and some of our supporters - have been completely out of proportion, but to say the above comparisons are seriously being made is plain daft.

Today's back page headine CARNAGE! in the Torygraph
The TV highlights reel showing fans swinging from the crossbar
The phrase "dark days of the 80s" being used by more than one person by more than one outlet.

Its being hinted at. Football fans though can see through the propaganda.

Written by people who probably have no knowledge of football before the mid 90's.  To compare what happened yesterday to some of the scenes witnessed in the 80's (where in some cases people tragically lost their lives) is absolutely ridiculous.

No, the idea that Villa are being discriminated against or treated differently to any other club is a persecution complex.  To suggest it the day after an incident like yesterday's is even worse; if we're ever going to get justified criticism it's going to be after something like that no?  As for brian's stuff, well usually I agree with him but he's off the deep end there.

Chatting this morning at my son's match (6-0 away win at Wigton Moor) to a mate who is a long standing Swansea supporter and he was saying he was swearing at the TV when they were referring to the dark days, as he said it was absolutely nothing like the supposed dark days. The pitch invasion before the end was embarassing and looked very small time but the one at the final whistle was just exhuberance. Jonathan Pearce was an embarassment from start to finish last night, time for the BBC to put him and us out of our misery.

I know that the post is addressed to someone else, but can you explain exactly what you thought was so bad about what happened last night?

Be nice if folks enjoyed winning instead of still finding something to moan about all day. Lighten up, we're in the semis of the Holy Grail and it IS our year.

What was so terrible that coverage of "an incident like yesterday's" can't be criticised for the hyperbolistic nonsense that it was? There's been plenty of evidence that other clubs, most notably Manchester United DO get preferential treatment. That's not persecution complex, it's a fact.

The recurring theme on here that's beginning to bother me is the repeated use of the phrase 'smalltime' as if we should consider ourselves to big to be happy about a trip to wembley.  When the fans of the other local teams sulk about us one of the more common themes is that our fans are a 'smug and superior' and calling our own fans smalltime does have an element of that to it.

Condemn the fans who ran on before the whistle, most of them looked so pissed up that they probably don't remember most of the game, but the people who went on at the end were mostly just carried along with events and there's a whole bunch of reasons why it happened, none of which deserve to be labelled as small time.

Sure. I hate to see pissed up dickheads running on to the pitch while the game's still going on.  I hate to see pissed up dickheads running on to the pitch at the final whistle, while the players are still on the pitch, in a charged up derby game, when there clearly aren't enough stewards or police to cope with it if something went off.  I hate to see police and fans squaring up with batons being brandished.  I hate to see seats being ripped up and chucked at people.  I hate that the Villa's reputation suffers become some pissed up dickheads think it's okay.

Poor start, they should have been in the lead after the shocking miss by the centre forward who has been useless in both games. After 20-25 mins, thought we got a grip on the game without looking too dangerous, but the half time team talk had the desired effect and we looked a totally different team. Great play by N'Zogbia down the right and played the ball at the right time to Delph, though thought Myhill should have done better. Great run off the ball by Sinclair, who I had been moaning about early on in the game.

Their sending off was a useless decision, but really didnt influence the game as we seemed to be in control and excellent pass by Grealish on the counter attack and good finish by Sinclair.

Thought Grealish was a little unlucky to get the second yellow, but he did seem to make a bit of a meal about the challenge. Still dont think it was worthy of a second yellow.

Sherwood is having a real ositive effect on the team and long may it continue. Pulis was pathetic after the game and should be ashamed of himself for maoning about everything instead of admitting his team were well beaten again. The few who ran on before the end of the game were silly, but there was no nastiness at the end from what I could see

Forgot to say that Clark was my MOTM again, what a change in fortune for the lad and seems to really have matured into a good centre half
