Personally i'm enjoying the fact i'll be at Wembley next month much more than i'm bothered about a pitch invasion.

Regarding the pitch invasions, I've never been tempted, in 40 years, to go onto the pitch. Over that time there have been many, many more memorable occaisions than last night. Those during the game are inexcusable, those after are understandable, but neither is acceptable.

The problem with going onto the pitch, no matter how friendly or well intentioned it is, is the very real risk that goading the WBA fans leads to a situation where it escalates into a riot. Fortunately, last night it didn't but the risk that it could have is there. Additionally, there's a risk that some idiot, attacks an opposing player.

When our neighbours have behaved in a similar manner everyone has, quite rightly, condemned it.

At the end of the game I would have liked the opportunity to have celebrated the win with the players, we didn't get that opportunity because a few people couldn't restrain themselves.

I don't remember national outrage when the noses came on the pitch after beating us in the quarter-final of the league and started throwing flares.  That game wasn't on the BBC though which might have had something to do with it.

Speaking of this week I would say Sherwood has done a far better job with the players he has than Pulis has. And we are missing a number of players that might have helped, including our main forward and captain. I would say Sherwood has squeezed more out of a group of players than Pulis has over a greater length of time. The football is also much better to watch.

Well besides two moments on Tuesday night Benteke has done nothing for the last couple of months anyway so had a feeling than we could maybe live without him.  Brilliant! So you think that over the last week Sherwood has achieved more than Pulis in his whole managerial career? That is the very nature of getting carried away.

Another thing about Sherwood is that I over heard a Villa fan yesterday saying how smug he comes across.  And I think there is something to that, it seemed to be the case at Spurs too.  It is easy to be that way when you are winning lets see him if things go the other way.

again, what on earth are you talking about? Where have I compared Sherwood this week to Pulis over his career? I said he's got more out of his team this week than Pulis, who has had a longer time to get used to being the manager of Albion. That's just a fact. Talk about getting carried away.

And why are you bringing up Sherwood's personality or demeanour? What has that got to do with how well he's done? This isn't about Sherwood. This is all about the merits of Pulis and you are the only person on here, a day after we knock them out of the cup, and in a week we beat them twice shouting as loudly as possible about how ace he'd have been as Villa manager. Frankly I don't get it at all. What a bizarre position to have taken today of all days.

Okay I accept at least some of what you are saying.   My main point about Sherwood's personality is that it may cause him to get too carried away with himself or the team and believe that the job is done when in reality we still have much work to be done.  So if you are comparing him to Pulis in this respect then Pulis because of his experience and cool head would be better in keeping the players feet on the ground.

Really I am just trying to keep a sense of prospective and just point out that we still have a lot to do this season.  I still think West Brom will finish above us in the league and that we may still go down or at least leave it close again.  I would be very happy for Sherwood to prove me wrong.  Lets see what happens.

There's a photo doing the rounds of a 20 year old Villa fan who seemingly has a very nasty gash to his head caused by a flying seat.

Got back a few hours ago after staying over in Bristol with my daughter on the way back. What a day. Probably the best game I've been to for passion and atmosphere. As for the pitch invasion I think before the end it was unforgiveable. At the end it was an outpouring of emotion after the dross of the last few years so perhaps it's understandable.

Delph was awesome and Sinclair looks like the Swansea version which is great for us. Thought we adapted really well to being without Benteke. Now lets take this form to the league games.

Watching the half time analysis, Shearer said there was no atmosphere.  What a plank. How the fuck could he tell cocooned in his plastic bubble. Get in the Holte Shearer. We'll show you what atmosphere is all about.

My daughter got on 606 as well!

Bring on the semi!

To be fair to Shearer (not a sentence I use very often) I did think the atmosphere was a bit dead at least from our point of view in the first half.  It was great before kick off and at the start, but after about five minutes it did seem to fade.  I put this down to nerves and the fact that we were awful first half.  Still overall can't have many complaints.

There's a good deal of common sense on this thread and an equal amount of bullshit.  If it's not some class war against football fans then it's a media conspiracy to whip up hysteria or it's Olbiyun players taking on the barbarian horde single-handed or it's okay because it happens all the time at rugby and cricket matches.  It is fair to say that the kick off time was crazy, because some football fans can't be trusted not to lose all their self-control after they've been on the piss.  That goes for the bitter seat-chuckers too; they're equally culpable.  It's also fair to say, in hindsight, that there weren't enough stewards but, as the guy on the BBC Sport says, how many is enough to stop a major pitch invasion?  I have some sympathy for the OB and stewards who can't win either way: if there are too many it's 'heavy handed'; if there's a pitch invasion it's because there aren't enough.  No doubt they were expecting trouble but it seems you can never underestimate the brainlessness of the general public.

I don't think there's faux outrage, there's genuine outrage and that's got nothing to do with whether you're in the ground, on the pitch or anywhere else.  It looked terrible, it looked ugly, it looked smalltime and it looked like regression.  You can bet your bottom dollar that if these scenes had happened at the Hawthorns and we'd been on the wrong end of it then the condemnation of it on here would have been total.  The media aren't focusing on it because they have some agenda but because it is the talking point, whether we like it or not.  If there's any bias it comes from Villa fans who want to soft-pedal it or excuse it precisely because it is our fans and our club.  It is what it is, i.e. a really idiotic and shameful end to what had been the best day for the club in a long time.

The only positive is that it'll be forgotten next week as the focus will have shifted on to some spitting / biting / drink driving / raping incident.  Football: bloody hell.

All credit to Villa and Sherwood yesterday ........ was this not a Villa side missing 5 first choice players against a full strength Baggies team (maybe Foster missing)

Some great performances from certain players yesterday ..... Charles for one and Lowton playing out of position ....maybe he will become first choice at left back?

Don't we think that Clark is fast becoming player of the season ....he surely now is first choice at centre back

Bring on Sunderland ........ some tough selection choices which is good

Who knows two weeks time and we will be looking upwards and to Wembley rather than a panic

With Guzan's performances dipping in recent weeks then I think Clark could be a contender for POTS if he keeps his progress up.

Clark or Hutton for POTS. What odds would you have got on that when in the summer the general consensus was that they were both shit and Championship level at best.

No I still think Hutton hasn't been that great.  Think his experience helped us in the early months, but don't think he has been that good since November/Dec time.
