I particularly enjoyed watching the guy wearing the flasher mac at the beginning of the Mail video declaring Villa are a championship side, whilst nearly crying and declaring everyone and everything useless. It must have been heartbreaking watching Benteke casually side foot the pen whilst Foster crawled about on the floor like Gollum not knowing what the fuck was going on.

It's the line "Tek Bentekay out that team are theym nuffin" that got me!!

Benteke's been at best, useless for months matey.

hopefully not for much longer though.

Why are WBA referred to as the "bitters" ?

Remember that I'm a glory-hunting interloper who only started following Villa because of the guarantee of trophies and did not grow up immersed in the local rivalries.

They never got over the fact that they weren't quite good enough to win the league (or any other trophy for that matter) when they had a very exciting team under BFR and we did do just that under Saunders playing exciting football. That would be one of the reasons. Oh and the fact that Wolves won the League Cup at the time despite being practically bankrupt.

I am sure there are a multitude of other reasons too but I've got the ball rolling.

Last major trophy win -

Small Heath 2011
Villa            1996
Coventry     1987
Wolves        1980
Albion         1968

Since they last won a major trophy we have won six (seven and a half if you want to throw in the Super Cup and Charity Shield), Wolves have won two and even Coventry and Small Heath have won one each. We won the European Cup and European Super Cup, Wolves reached the UEFA Cup final and even Small Heath had 'A European adventure'. They still bang on about beating Valencia in the last sixteen of the UEFA Cup thirty five years ago before being knocked out in the quarters. Bitter? Them?

Don't forget John Wile's heroics in their ill fated Cup semi final against Ipswich in 1978. In which they got thrashed.

And 1979, when they were the only team to be affected by the snow.

The manager of their bestest team in most peoples memories won a major trophy with Villa, a major trophy with Sheffield Wednesday, two major trophies with Manchester United and a fourth division title trophy with Cambridge. Although admittedly I don't think in any of those seasons we had a lot of snow.

That would be the game when the club announced ticket arrangements for the final before they played the semi.

An important question; will there be free flags for this game?

We always win when they give us free flags (well, we beat Blackburn in the League Cup Semi-Final in 2010....).

They thought that Tuesday was it, that all the pain of our superiority would be banished, that they would have fans all over the ground, that they would all but relegate us, that they would show the world what a bunch of cheating, dirty bastards we were, and that they would finally step out of the darkness and everyone one would know who they were, not just themselves.

But it didn't happen, and whatever happens on Saturday, it won't change the fact that, like many before them, they made assumptions that were so very wide of the mark.

From the OS - our Olly will be happy :)

Quote
Focused Sherwood: Rest players for the FA Cup? No chance!

Tim Sherwood produced an icy stare in the midst of the euphoria of the win over the Baggies on Tuesday as he was asked whether resting players for the return of Albion this weekend was in his mind.

"No chance" came his reply as he spoke of his desire to see off WBA again - despite the quick turnaround of matches - and ensure a trip to Wembley in the FA Cup.

On the eve of the top-flight clash, he had said: "We're focusing on Tuesday and then we're looking 100% on Saturday. We want to make it to the semi-final, win that and win the Cup."

His outlook hadn't changed as he addressed the media following the top-flight derby victory over the weekend opponents.

Asked whether he would rest players, he said: "No chance! It's the quarter-final of the FA Cup.

"It's a massive club. There's absolutely no chance of that.

"This win gives the club a huge lift. Now we want to get to Wembley.

"We want to be in the semi-final of the Cup.

"The Cup game is now the most important one for us as it's the next one - and we want to get to Wembley."

I can't imagine what I'd do if we won the Fa Cup.

I don't even want to think about it.

Winning the FA Cup would be amazing  but my overall feeling about it would depend on whether we've maintained our P'ship status.
