So Scott Marshall gets a win in probably his only Villa game in charge  - 100% record!

I seem to remember John Ward getting a win in his only game in charge too.

More recently, we've had McAllister and MacDonald, who had rather mixed results.

Does anyone remember any other caretakers for Villa?  Anyone who has a 100% record, but managed more than one game?

I imagine the players didn't know Sherwood was going to make an appearance today in the half time break.

The second half was a class above.

Can't read much into caretaker managers, can't imagine players really giving 100% for someone who isn't hanging around.

Well done today though to the Marshall stack. Back to the day job tomorrow.

Wasn't John Ward's only game in charge a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford when SGT was attending his daughters graduation? The famous foggy journey home about 10,000 of us made on bonfire night '88. Because from Frank Upton at Old Trafford on the last day in '87 to Jim Barron in late '94 we didn't have a caretaker due to both SGT and Dr Jo leaving at the end of the season. The only caretakers I can remember are Tony Barton, Ron Wylie, Upton, Barron, MacDonald, McAllister and the Marshall brothers today.

I should know this but who was our trainer before Arthur Cox. There must have been someone after Bill Moore. I think Johnny Dixon did the youth sides .Who did it with Joe Mercer? Did Dick Taylor cover training as well as Assistant Manager?

I think I've confused/misremembered it then - probably remembered Barron's win, but attributing it to Ward.

That's the one. Then there was John Deehan & Stuart Gray after Gregory resigned. I remember them in charge for a draw at Fulham.

I think Deehan and Gray oversaw two 0-0's, that Fulham one and a home game against Everton when a fan ran onto the pitch, or something?

I wanted him as manager when SGT left. The following season he finished even lower than Dr Jo and got Derby relegated. I obviously had great faith in Arthur Cox as two years before I can remember sticking a bet on Derby to win the title. Yes, the proper old first division title! I obviously wasn't totally mad as they did come fifth.
