I can't help but feel that the team we have no, possible exception of Gestede would suit Rodgers style. We likes full backs to get forward, ball playing midfielders. As someone above said there is a worry about him chopping and changing but at least you can see some semblance of reasoning behind it even if it doesn't work. That's more than I can say for Tim.
The worry is the way we took them apart at Wembley and then he was totally outdone, they were bad last season, but is it fair to judge anyone having to run Steven Gerrard's Farewall Circus?

Moyes I worry about his ability to handle precocious young talent and realistically that's probably key to us stopping up is getting Grealish/Traore going. Moyes fell out with Rooney and Barkley and while he did bring players through at Everton, they seem to be the Osmans, Rodwell, Hibbert etc who seem good pro's rather than arrogant little blighters like our Jack.

I'd take either and I'm certainly happier with these choices over last time we needed to hire a new manager.

If we do replace the manager, one thing I am certain about is that we must go for somebody with experience and that has managed at a high level.  We must reduce the risk of a new manager not succeeding as much as possible.

The last three managers would have to have stepped up a level to get Villa to an acceptable level.  A new manager must be somebody that has managed clubs at the upper end of their league.  The only two from British football that fit that bill are Rodgers and Moyes but we should be looking outside of British managers as well.

The money will be there but does the club have 'ambition' to sell that will make it attractive.

There is no way we are getting relegated if we appoint either Rodgers or Moyes in the next couple of weeks. Look at the teams around us, not a chance. We replace that utter charlatan with a decent experienced manager, you know one competent at putting a structure and style of play on the team and we will improve very quickly imo. It doesn't need to be a Klopp or Mourinho but it's needs to be quick as our players need direction urgently. Both Moyes and Rodgers are eminently capable of that.

Allardyce is a very good appointment at Sunderland but they only have 3 or 4 players that are top division standard. Newcastle will pull away too starting with this weekend I reckon. Bournemouth with their injuries will really struggle over Xmas I think.

Agree with much of this, but despite its potential, I still see glaring major weaknesses in the squad - lack of quality up front, lack of quality from the full backs, lack of flair in midfield etc etc.  All of which would have made me happy with Allardyce's organisational skills and on that basis Rogers would be a big risk.

For me Moyes is by far the best option.

he was in a pretty good team, and thats about it, leg end is a bit over the mark though.

Very doubtful IMO

Taking them both into account, and in particular Moyes, it is suggested that he wants to get back into the Premier League. His choice of clubs would be fairly limited;

Moyes for instance has already been to Man United, he wouldn’t be in contention should Mourinho, Wenger or Pellegrini get the sack, while Liverpool have just appointed Klopp. Pochettino is going steady at Spurs, while he has also obviously been to Everton.

Monk and Koeman are both well ensconced and equally doing good work at their respective clubs. West Ham have only recently appointed Bilic and to be honest, I do not think any three of those clubs would be big enough now for either Moyes or Rogers, despite their present/temporary form, regardless of how secure all three of those managers are. Palace would fit into that bracket, as would Stoke; small clubs, doing alright, with managers doing a very solid job.

The only two clubs who would likely be big enough are the sirens on the rocks that are Newcastle and Aston Villa. Both are big, both have under performed, both are disorganized in their own ways and seriously under performing. Both may part company soon, although I am less sure that McLarren will be shown the door quite as soon as Sherwood.

If not us or the Georidies then where?

We’d be very attractive. We pay very big wages to our managers. We are an incredibly prestigious name, where the potential is to only move one way. Yes there are pressures and expectations, but then the managers ego should be large enough to convince Moyes and Rogers that they’re more than qualified to make the job a success, otherwise, why would they take it?

I think we’ve got good players, much better ones than those Moyes found at Everton when he took over for example. This is the manager who was able to pip us to 5th year after year despite not having a recognized striker for most of the time.

It’s a tantalizing prospect and it is the proverbial poisoned chalice.

Why would Moyes want to do the same job he did at Everton?

Well he built his reputation on it for a start and he was damn good at it. If he wants to manage a big English club again in the near future, then he has limited options. Getting us on an upward trajectory is possible his only chance of securing a bigger job in England again.

I don't know for certain but I can't recall Rodgers taking over a badly struggling side and quickly turning them around enough to stay up. And if he did it wasn't with a big club in the Premier League. Moyes took over a big club with a big history who had spent the previous few years struggling, kept them up and turned them into a top six side. So he certainly ticks that very specific box.

Agree Ads. Moyes just seems to tick all the boxes from both sides. I think we're about his level and he's about ours, and we're both in bad relationships looking to get out.
