Anyone else find themselves deeply unconvinced by Brendan Rodgers?

Yes, he got them to second, but how much of that was about Suarez?

And if we're concerned about tactical messes now, what about the tactical clusterfuck he managed to produce in the semi final?

I'm not overly convinced about him either. As you said, Suarez played a massive part in the season they nearly won the title. Would they done so well without him?

Villa Park is a managerial graveyard in recent years so I am not sure how many decent options we are going to have. I know people say offer enough money and they will come but if it is the last decent job you ever have then it might not seem so attractive.

Sometimes managers who move around a bit just need a club that fits them and vice versa.

I see that with Pardew. I remember the stick he got at Newcastle and apparently Newcastle were going to rise majestically up the leagues when he left according to a few on here....

Doing very well at Palace isn't he. A club he played for and is well backed by the fans and board. They won't be far off top 6 this season imo.

Could also make a case for Big Sam. A marriage of inconvience at West Ham despite him doing a very respectable job there but Sunderland should be a much better fit.

I have no idea if Rodgers will be a good fit or not for us but he won't have a problem picking up another prem job, I read a few times in the last 6 months that if Man. City can't tempt Guardiola to come, Rodgers is a fall back option as their board admire the way he gets his teams to play.

Eventually we'll find a manager who fits us, god knows how many more managers it will take and god knows what league we'll be in when we find him.

True. But you do get the impression with this squad a bit of fine tuning could make them decent. Something that Tim cannot do thus far, maybe Rogers or another can.

And regardless, we have to keep on trying.

Have to agree with these  posts. Rodgers is an improvement on Sherwood and his predecessors but I also think his one good season with Liverpool was due to having Suarez and to a lesser extent Sturridge. I'd like to see a proven continental manager who believes in attacking football.

Odd, I find it, that we were the first club to ever employ a continental manager, then never tried it again for a quarter of a century until Houllier, at which point the club seemingly felt it got its fingers burnt, and once more consigned the notion to the dustbin. Just because the likes of us on here can't come up with a name shouldn't mean that no-one at Aston Villa can't either.

Well all this talk of Rodgers is much better to hear than Villa fans hoping for Big Sam as we were reading not too long ago.

a big Amen to that brother

I find it very frustrating to hear people say 'give him till Christmas'.
Having been to all the home games under Sherwood and both Wembley appearances coupled with the live games shown on the at Southampton and Leicester how much more proof do we need that this guy is way out of his depth?
There are a few managers out of work or eminently get table who could use this squad way better so why let him damage us even more?
If these rumours about him having two games to save his job then great,if he wins them then what a relief and how vital those points could be.
If he loses them them then hopefully we'll get somebody in with half a clue.

Not arguing against your overall point
But the semi against Liverpool was the best performance from a Villa side for years

Even though we lost the game, I thought Man City away last season was one of the best perfomances i've seen us put in for a while.

That would see us down, I think. I honestly do.

I supported Lambert entirely his first two seasons, because I could see things that made me think he was going to improve us, or had the ability to do.

I look at Sherwood and I just see confusion and chaos.

If Klopp mixes with fans in a Liverpool pub, does Sherwood hide in an Islington private members' clubs whilst Mourinho sips with Russian gangsters in an underground place in Moscow??

He then told that same group of players on the eve of the final that most of them wouldn't be here next season. He picked Nzogbia over Gabby and Hutton in the final too and did nothing during one of the most humiliating one sided finals in years.Never felt so low as a Villa fan coming home after that game.

A few have said the same thing.

Based on what exactly?
