The answer is to get the players proper jobs as well as their part time occupation with Villa, think how much fitter say, Westwood would be if he had forty hours working in a chip shop under his belt as well. I wonder why no one has thought of it before.
If you look to Europe I thnink Lucien Favre is probably the best and most realistic bet for us....well unless Bielsa camps outside the North Stand watching the job.He actually took over Monchengladbach in 2011 when they were about 6-7 points off safety and bottom. They stayed up on a relegation play off and next season they finished in top 3 and qualified for CL.Last season again they finished in CL although of course bad start to the season so he quit but there was talk of him being Bayern Munich's next manager when Guardiola left.Being Swiss I imagine he was a command of English so from anyone abroad I think he's worth looking at.

I didn't know anyone who supported anyone else but Villa. However, I have lived in Lancashire now for quite some time and obviously the media is City, Utd or Liverpool biased, and when I talk to proper football fans of a certain age most remember the great Villa teams of the late 70s and early 80s, but now we are looked on a bit like how people once looked upon Man City. Big club, shame about the team. Probably going to get relegated in the not too distant future. So once again Villa look for a new manager. None of the top managers will touch the club with a barge pole because of the lack of leadership from the top, because the stench of failure has been hanging around for years and maybe, although I can only speculate on this, we don't pay what the top men want. So we go along the tired, and totally hapless routine of the up and coming manager. This is where someone in charge should take a look at the history books starting from about 1983.Graham Turner: disaster. You don't sack the manager who has won the European Cup and replace him with the manager of Shrewsbury Town. That is pure vanity on behalf of the owner.Billy McNeil: disaster. Your team's in the shit, you sack one clueless manager and replace him with another who has just been sacked from his previous job for being shit!Inevitably the club gets relegated and the owner finally realises that his vanity has well and truly screwed things up and does what he should have done in the first place. Hence the next appointment. Graham Taylor. Experienced. No nonsense. Unfortunately for us Graham Taylor does a spectacularly good job and gets the England spot. Cue more vanity from Mr Ellis. Graham recommends Ron Atkinson, Mr Ellis appoints Josef Venglos. No experience of managing an English club hence the meltdown that occurred that ended in a brush with relegation. Owner realises that he's cocked up again, does the right thing and apooints Big Ron. Everyone's happy. ( For a few years at least)Ellis and Big Ron part company and Ellis decides to act like the owner of a top club. Identifies manager, says to smaller club we want your manager and we're not taking no for an answer and cue the arrival of Brian Little. Everyone's happy again, for a few more years.For brevity I'll skip the Gregory, Taylor, O'Leary years, but you should be getting the ooint. The success of a top football club comes from the leadership from the very top. When Randy Lerner was actually interested in Aston Villa we looked set to break into the top four.skip to today, the club ultimately has no leadership from the man who matters. Until tgat changes we are screwed. For Tim Sherwood read Graham Turner, Billy McNeil, Josef Venglos, Alex Mcleish and Paul Lambert. They come to the club with good intentions. Walk into the club and are instantly out of their depth.My point about living away from Brum now is that unless you have lived Aston Villa you just don't get Aston Villa. No more up and coming managers please. Yes to more Saunders, Taylors and Atkinsons. We need a battle hardened coach/manager. Who at Watford searches out their managers as they have had a few decent one recently. The Boro manager (former Real Madrid player) hasa lot of potential.
