Hold on, you can't fail to give him credit for changes on the basis they were changes to his own formation.

Important he got the win tonight.

However ultimately he will be judged on premier league football.

Now given our good record at Anfield, is 4 points from Liverpool and Stoke out of the question.

That will get me excited, not narrow cup wins against lower league teams.

After all last January we beat Blackpool and Bournemouth in the cups but kept on losing in the league.

Clark in MF didn't work at all, not going to give him stick for it though as quite a few on here have been saying stick Clark in MF.

Good changes. Honestly though given the difference in resources and player quality it shouldn't have been a 1 goal margin.

Yeah every game. What was your expectation from a team that finished 17th last year and lost their best players?

A bit of progress would be nice.

Maybe you havent watched us this season. Dont be fooled by a decent 60 mins at Leicester.

They have. But it's a pretty good filter for people who understand football and are worth responding  and those that aren't. File with Westwood is shit and Sinclair can play no 9 for me.

A bit worrying that we even tried it

Get a grip guys. I can't believe what I read from some of you. He totally turned last season around. He then lost 2-3 of his best players (depending on your view of Vlaar). He then has reinvented our squad in a massively surprising, imaginative and inspiring way.

Bringing all these new and unproven players together will take time, and we're no worse off than last year. This season will get a lot better, give the team and the manager some time and space to get it right.

You will probably get some stick as we are all a bit low at the moment but I think you have good points. I do wish the team would gel a lot quicker though :)

I expected Clark to be a calm head in defensive midfield. I'm not going to blame Sherwood for that. Clark is no baby and if he's watched the games he's not played in, as an intelligent footballer, he should have easily slotted in. He did himself a disservice tonight, as did the rest of the team with the exception of Grealish, who was too busy taking the piss, if truth be told.

I shared your reservations about TS's appointment, Rudy, and I remain far from convinced about him. Brian Green wrote a good post about his ego, and I believe he is more concerned about Brand Tim than Team Villa. I hope I am wrong.

However, if Grealish was on from the start, I believe he would have gone off injured before half time. The physicality of our play in the first half laid  the basis for or skillful display in the second half. This was Timah's design.

If Grealish and Gill started this game together, I think we would have lost.

With no disrespect to Brian, I think I was in there before talking about the 'arrogance' of (not so young) Timothy. Tim, as I've mentioned numerous times, talks a good game. Just heard Rowell post match comments and can't disagree with a word; Tim talks through his arse.

Quote
Birmingham were unlucky not to go into the break ahead, and Rowett subsequently ridiculed Sherwood’s afterthought as the Villa boss insisted he had caught his opponents ‘massively by surprise’ with his tactics.

“I think he’s talking absolute rubbish to be honest with you,” said Rowett.

“We cut them apart first half. I certainly wouldn’t use a tactic of being booed off at half time as something that I’d try to use. The got desperate for me and, fair play to them, they changed it in the second half.

“But first half we nullified them. We heard one of their players coming off at the end of the first half saying ‘we can’t go direct’, so I think that tells you really the story of the half rather than the comments from Tim.”

"Massively by surprise" with his tactics.

I'm so pissed off that I know full well where this is going. When will we ever learn? Still, he beat the Rags and will have Sainthood until at least the end of the month, maybe until Xmas. I'd understand it if I started supporting Villa yesterday.

I thought we we shocking second half against Leicester, shite against the Baggies but tonight was a new low. What makes it worse is the Rags are undoubtably the worst team we've played in years. In fact, I challenge anybody to recall a team so poor as them tonight.

Leyton Orient were worse, although they beat us they were still shite.

I think there's some truth in what Sherwood says. I think he wanted us to be more direct and physical first half which is why Jack was one the bench. While part of that worked, we were also very wank at times, which I would assume, and hope, wasn't part of the plan.

Sorry but I have to disagree with us being cut apart in the first half, that wasn't the game I saw, it was two poor teams, with us being the poorer. There was no slick, precise cutting apart. He's talking out of his anus.
