re Palace, but we did lose, didn't we?

Ultimately, he just has to win more matches, that'll shut up all the moaners and sway the unconvinced, too. He doesn't need to launch us on a 12 match unbeaten run or anything, just pick up three points here and there.

He's got a great chance tomorrow to pick up more goodwill than almost any other victories would provide, too, but it is also a match he really can't have us losing.

The amount of time supporters will give him or any other manager when they start to suspect they're getting a continuation of the last few years is bound to decrease.

Wednesday is the day we put all this shit behind us and start our season, whichever way today's game goes.

I'm sorry but if we lose the Blose game with a similar performance that we gave against the Albion the shit will only just have started.

Massive game for Sherwood this is.

I totally agree with your last point. On the flip side, as well as the fact that beating a championship side tonight will gain him a lot of goodwill due to who that team is, he is also in the slightly enviable position of an average season, should he achieve it, looking like a good one due to the last few years we have endured.

That's exactly it.  We are not asking for the flippin world.  Just some decent football, a few more home wins, mid table security and the feeling that we are on the improve.

With a Club of the Villa's size and resources that should be very achievable for a decent Manager with a bit of nous.

It is a massive game for him I agree but it should not be. It hands to Small Heath the chance to damage us when that chance should be denied them. The way you keep Small Heath in their place is not to treat them as equals. All the hype piled on this game fuels their fantasies about what they actually are.  If we lose to them we are out of a cup competition, if we beat them we are in the next round and that is it. No bedsheets, no mobbing of Bodymoor Heath, no booing the players or booing the manager. That is what Small Heath will be playing for tonight, to get us doing that shit. The season starts tomorrow.

I admire your sentiment Brian but I'm not sure many going tonight will see it that way.

Could a loss tonight mean Bradford/Millwall Lambert moment for Sherwood?

No Oz, but you REALLY have to hate them to ignore them. When I was 8 I saw a girl raped on the cinders of the Tilton Rd end. Gave me an early insight into Small Heath Alliance and their fans. It causes me almost physical pain to see them normalised in these pages by being referred to by the colour of their shirts. They are detestable filth and if I had my way I would refuse to play them and hand them a bye into the next round. They are an abomination not fit to walk past Villa Park let alone be allowed inside it. Tomorrow cannot come soon enough for me and I can stop thinking about those Neanderthal shitbags.

I don't think we are about to hit the equivalent of Lambert's Bradford/Millwall moment, simply because there was no Bradford/Millwall moment for Lambert.  Despite a period of unprecedented shitness around January 2013 (the 15-0 Christmas defeats, plus home defeats to humdrum Newcastle and Southampton and the cup defeats - all in an astonishing spell of around 5 weeks) Lambert came out seemingly unscathed, such was the goodwill of the supporters for him at that point.  It simply wasn't a moment when the supporters turned on Lambert.  They were astonishingly patient.  I don't sense that such patience is around at the moment though.  If we lose tonight the honeymoon period for TS will be well and truly over.

There was no Bradford/Milwall moment. Lambert carried his shit on, with almost full support from the crowd for another 2 years. He should have been sacked the day after the Bradford debacle, I've never seen a 4-0-6 formation before and I doubt I'll ever see it again but it certainly was the dumbest thing I've seen a Villa manager do in my lifetime. It was obvious after that he was a clueless chancer.

It's getting quite important now that we start winning some games. We've got a really poor return from what would seem to be a relatively straightforward start to the season. We need a massive improvement in the coming weeks. An Ayew hat trick tonight would be useful.
