Exactly amfy. TS needs and deserves patience...we all knew that it would take a while for this team to gel and it would be a roller coaster ride until we settle, so we need to put this into perspective and appreciate that we are still very much a work in progress...even if the result yesterday was very disappointing and frustrating, we played some excellent football and were by far the better team for the majority of the game. If we're still making these mistakes in 3 months time then there'll be cause for concern, but right now there are things to be very positive about...lets not forget, we haven't even unleashed Traore on this league yet so theres a lot more excitement to come yet!

So do you know what superstar manager is going come here and bring in a side which instantly start getting consistent results out of a team that have been bottom half for 5 years?

At some point someone has to re-build, which isn't the same as instant results, and whilst there have been some serious frustrations in the past few weeks, I am also seeing significant signs that Sherwood can achieve a re-build. We were really good for nearly an hour yesterday, and have been in a number of our early season games. Much better actually than I thought we'd be by now.

The things that need to change look fairly obvious and easy - concentration/complacency in the later stages & substitutions that go for wins when we are losing and shore up when we are winning. That is far less complicated than trying to get a team to look like they know how to pass to each other, let alone in a generally forward direction, which is what we had before he arrived. I think we have taken massive steps forward. We are 5 games in, and this almost completely new team has already played some great football which has actually been fun and interesting to watch.

Giving the last guy 3 years is not a reason to only give this one 3 months.

Another spot on post. After sitting through the Albion game on saturday, I know who's football i'd rather be watching. We'll be fine but we'll need to be patient. After what Lambert dished up on a weekly basis, i'm happy enough to do that.

Work in progress. Long term project.....

Which we've been hearing constantly for 5 years now. The support need some jam today, not jam tomorrow every season. I can't be bothered to look it up but I wouldn't be surprised if collectively we're not far from having the worst league record from Mcleish taking over to today.

We've been shit for 5 years though, which is precisely why we need time to rebuild.

It's not really fair to get impatient with Sherwood because his predecessor spent three years going nowhere.

Under no circumstances should Lambert be used as a benchmark for measuring our managers.

Lambert's greatest attribute was not being McLeish. Sherwood's greatest attribute..?

Let's face facts, we have a manager with next to no management experience. It's a simple case of waiting to see if he sinks or swims. If he swims, great. If he doesn't, don't be surprised. I think we'll know by Christmas.

You'd be entirely correct if I'd used Lambert as some kind of benchmark, which I didn't.

I was saying it's unfair to be impatient with him because we've wasted so much time with the previous incumbent.

Your last point could apply to any manager ever, at any time. There are plenty of very experienced managers very capable of fucking things up.

I think the talk of him being under pressure is ridiculous, but he really needs to learn very quickly how to make changes that impact the game in a positive way for Villa.

Thirded. Sherwood's still got a fair bit of credit in the bank, for me and deserves a full season in charge, at the absolute minimum. Yes, he made mistakes with the substitutions yesterday, but similarly the players let him down with a number of individual errors.

Gotcha, Lee. The only issue is your last point, very experienced managers are still in a job because they've obviously achieved something during their time. Timothy is an unknown quantity. Of course we have to understand he's having to do a rebuild but we're not a training school for unqualified managers to get some hands on experience in the hope that they make the grade. It was a massive risk appointing him and based on that, I don't believe he deserves the patience we'd give to a more experienced manager.

Saying that, I was greatly encouraged by our first half performance yesterday. It was the complete capitulation in the second half that really worries me. When every man and his dog automatically knew his substitutions were going to make us suffer, you have to seriously question what the hell is going on inside his head. I expect the board to give him at least until the end of the season unless things really go pear shaped. Whether you like it or not, the next two games will go a long way in determining how much goodwill he has from the fans.

I'm really hoping he gets it right as he seems to have the attributes to be a manager but get a feeling he's his own worst enemy. Sadly, we can't hang around waiting for him to learn lessons that we'd expect even a Sunday league manager to understand.

It would be nice to see him get the chance to pick his first choice starting XI to, which if I were to guess, would contain neither Westwood nor Sanchez in the middle and have Adama in there too.

To hinge Sherwood's career with the club on the next two games is as unfair as hingeing Ayew's on his ritual sacrifice yesterday. Both exceedingly unfair but both will be assumed seamlessly. Sherwood needs more time and more bread and butter league games to demonstrate lessons learned and progress achieved. From some of us he and Ayew will get patience for others he will be Fredo in the boat. For what it is worth I think he will get a win over Small Heath and a defeat by the bitters. The Small Heath win will give him back a little goodwill but enough to get his team winning regularly? I have my doubts.

Given how much leighway Lambert seemed to get, I think Sherwood has quite some time yet before he feels the impending bullet.

I don't think we're very far apart in our thinking. My plea for a bit of patience has less to do with his experience, and more that we're moulding an entirely new side.

I think we'll get at least a draw against the bitters from Sandwell...Pulis will park the bus, so as long as we dont make mistakes at the back at set pieces and counter attacks then they should have a relatively quiet game (I know not making mistakes and gifting goals is a big ask at the moment!). We've always struggled at breaking teams down, but we have the players to do it now so if we pass and move like we did in the first hour yesterday then their back 4 will be chasing shadows...just wish that we had a natural goalscorer leading the line, but it could be equally as fun if Traore is fit.

I hope your prediction is wrong, Brian, defeat against the Bitters could see us in the bottom 3 next weekend. Early days I know but we could do without that kind of stress especially as we'd undoubtedly flip into panic mode if we also lost to the Rags. If Sherwood can get us more solid in defence and midfield, we have the talent to score the goals. Going gung-ho every game will only ever be exciting and entertaining for the neutrals and opposition fans.

I don't think anybody will complain too much if we're picking up points here and there whilst he moulds the team together, especially if we take all three on Saturday and send the Rags back to where they belong the week after.

Early days yet and the two previous incumbents would have lost that by about 5 or 6. A full set of 25 players to choose from would be nice and also interesting to see who the starting eleven would be.
