Any manager in any industry that has a turnover in personnel on the scale that TS has implemented is going to struggle to get instant results whilst everyone gets used to their new working environments and colleagues, so you can't underestimate the amount of work and time that needs to happen to get this group of players working as a cohesive unit/team.

Against Palace on Saturday it was pretty much a 50/50 mix of old and new:

2nd December 2014:
Guzan
Hutton
Okore
Clark
Cissokho
Cleverley (sub: Richardson)
Westwood
Cole (sub: Sanchez)
Agbonlahor
Benteke
Weimann

22nd August 2015:
Guzan
Bacuna
Richards
Clark
Amavi
Gueye
Sanchez (sub: Traore)
Westwood
Agbonlahor
Gestede
Grealish

Over the next few weeks, you'd expect a few more of the new players to make their claims for starting positions, however whilst they are still adjusting to life at Villa and the PL, it may well explain why TS has chosen to persist with the likes of Gabby as there is a spine in that team (albeit not a very good one) with PL experience.

With 2 very winnable home-games coming up this week, and on the back of some obvious mistakes in his last match, I think we'll learn an awful lot about Sherwood in the next 7 days.

I think the only thing we'll really learn in the next 7 days is if we don't win them Sherwood is utter gash. He couldn't have wished for two easier games.

His in game management still remains a problem.  Agbonlahor got a full 90 minutes at Palace and the same with Gestede today.  Again he failed to react after an opposing manager makes changes.

The nagging doubt is still there, but it certainly isn't nagging any harder as a result of today's performance.

this

only time will tell, i thought that gana, sanchez and westwood was a bit strange along with playing gestede as a lone striker.

I'd like to have seen some more subs used today when we seemed to have a strong bench.  No need to change tactics, just fresh legs and new problems for the opposition.

It wasn't even just that Gestede didn't have a good game. By 60 minutes Rudy was breathing out of his arse. I'm not sure he's up to 90 minutes in the top flight just yet. Unfortunately his clearest opportunities came in the last 20 minutes and they were slightly tired efforts.

I think we need to be a bit braver with Kozak. He scored goals in pre-season. He's got a knack and has good movement in the box. There's no point worrying if his legs are up to it. If he's technically fit to play, he's our best forward and should play.

At least he saw the minimal impact Bacuna was having and hooked him. How he couldn't see the zero impact and movement of Gestede was mind-boggling.

I'm positive if he brings Ayew or Kozak on we'd win that game if only for seeing the striker actually bloody move!

Apologies for quoting myself but on today's showing, despite not winning I don't think Sherwood is utter gash. What we've learnt about him over these seven days though is unclear, at least for me. The County game was probably more concerning than our draw today. He appeared to be rather rash with his team selection and tactics but today wise with his two central midfielders, Sanchez and Gueye.

I remember Sherwood proudly claiming that Benteke's return to form was a result of him doing less running, working solely within the width of the penalty area.  There is probably some truth in this, but the sprints between men and to show for a pass a still vital.  Gustede is not doing enough of this imo.

Yes he was very positive and he is clearly going to keep on this path. He knows we should have been clear of Sunderland before HT. hopefully in the coming weeks similar performances result in comfortable wins.

It was like parody Sherwood today. Set up a very brave team, the plan worked, the players looked relaxed and were playing for him. When we go two-up, against a run of play in which the opposition manager has (yet again!) flummoxed Tim with a half-time sub, Tim brings off our best player for someone who looks like he won a raffle prize to play in a Premier League match, brings on a big lumpy lump who does nothing, and continues to abandon the midfield as we get slaughtered everywhere.

Looks like the losing mentality is still with the club.
