Vlaar and Herd out would make it 10, including Burke. Blimey, if he wants another 7 out, we might be struggling for subs come the Bournemouth game!

I think Sherwood is talking about Sissokho, Senderos, Zog when he says they want to sit on their contracts.

I would have thought that Tonev would be on the exit list.

Bugger, I was trying to forget about him.
Got "free transfer" written all over him.

So the get rid list could look something like this...

Definite:
Cissoko
Tonev
Senderos
Cole
N'Zogbia

May be:
Sanchez
Richardson
Hutton

Keep:
Bacuna
Gil

Would like to get rid of:
Gabby

Out of contract:
Herd

...we do need backup for any fullbacks coming in, so I think TS would keep 2 out of Hutton, Bacuna and Richardson. Likewise, we need cover up front so Gabby wont be going anywhere especially after his contract extension.

Primarily because he's a bit shit...but its literally just a list of players in the squad that may or may not have been identified as being surplus to requirements so don't read too much into it.

Maybe 2 out of the 7 have gone already ( Given, Cleverly) in which case it's 5.

Assuming we have Amavi about to sign, I make it 32 players competing for a place in the nominated squad of 25.

I get it to 11 that can leave without suffering any noticeable loss, with the numbers being brought back up by  bringing 4 good quality players in.

GK: (As is)
RB: Hutton, Bacuna
LB: Cissokho, Richardson
CB: Senderos, Baker
MF: Tonev, Herd, Nzogbia, Cole
ST: Agbonlahor

Leaving a nominated 25 of:-

GK: Guzan, Steer, Bunn
RB: 1 to come in, Donacien
LB: Amavi , Bennett
CB: 1 to come in, Richards, Okore, Clark
MF: 2 to come in, Gueye, Delph, Westwood, Sanchez, Gil, Grealish, Gardner, Sinclair
ST: Benteke, Kozak, Robinson

Maybe a bit overpopulated in midfield and in need of a fourth up front, but we start to look like a proper outfit. The frightening thing is that there are still 6 or 7  in there who have to prove they are good enough for there not to be a major cull next year.

Donacien, Grealish and Robinson wouldn't be in a squad of 25 would they? Anybody under the age of 21 can be supplemented to the main squad.

He must have had a change of tune on N'zog then
Because last season he loved him, picked him for a lot of games even started the FA cup final

It one of the few things I think Sherwood got wrong last season the other being the goalkeeping situation,
but unless there had been some info on Zog which I doubt I expect him to be in Sherwoods plans next season although I hope I'm wrong

I didn't check what age Donacien and Robinson were, I just assumed they were over the limit - they seem to have been around for ages, just like Gardner. Donacien was 21 last November but I think the rule is 21 and under at season start. I didn't even stop to consider Grealish's age.

In which case there are three of the at risk group that could be usefully retained. I'd go with defensive cover - Bacuna, Richardson and Baker.

In fact, if the rule is 21 and under then Amavi (should we sign sign him) would also be omitted I think.

I'm not giving up on Hutton yet.  He was one of my favourite players last year and absolutely deserves a chance.

Agree on all points John.

For me this notion that N'Zogbia is going to be bundled out of the club despite having started nearly every game of Sherwood's tenure, whereas Gil is suddenly going to be brought back into the fold is little more than wishful thinking.
