I noticed earlier that Sherwood is third favourite to leave his job. Surprised me a little.

My dentist is a Sunderland fan and we always spend longer chatting about footie than it takes him to do my check-up.  Was in the other day and he said him and all his mates/boards reckon Sherwood will be gone by Xmas, just see him as a chancer and the end of the season slumo was more what it will be like. Just passing on an insight into other viewpoints which prbably affects the odds.

It seems to me that this is an easy line that fans of other clubs trot out with as much hope as evidence of such, mostly because they are afraid he might not be the chancer they want him to be and can actually take us somewhere - as in his first dozen games or so rather than his last 3.
I like him and what he did in keeping the sorry bunch he inherited last year up as well as getting us to the cup final - may be it won't work out, but for now I am willing to go with him / it - he has added some quality already and hopefully more to come in so let's enjoy the ride !

Its because of Sherwood's lack of experience the fact that he can be a bit of a hot head, and that many expect us to be in another relegation battle.  On the other hand if Lerner is still running the club then he has proven to be loyal to his managers so if Lerner stays the season then I expect Sherwood will too.  I never agreed with the appointment but am willing to give him a chance.

Sherwood may be relatively inexperienced as a Prem manager, but as I've said before, he isn't operating in a vacuum and has assembled a decent backroom support team. I fully expect us to have an uneventful season and finish mid-table which will feel like we've won the league after the last few years of dross.

...and what do Sunderland fans know about a successful football team anyway ? Answers on a postcard, best one wins a packet of frazzles and a Rowntree's cabana.

The truth about Sherwood is that he's not been a manager for long enough for anybody to be absolutely certain. He'll make mistakes, but as long as he keeps improving us I'll be fine with that. How anybody is an expert on him is beyond me.

They've had that many managers because they wouldn't know a good manager if he walked up to them and put a trophy in their face.

Tim Sherwood wants to sign four more players to strengthen ahead of the new season, but is experiencing difficulties moving on members of his squad he does not want.

The Aston Villa manager has brought in Micah Richards and Mark Bunn on frees and midfielder Idrissa Gueye for £9million, while also being on the verge of completing the £9m transfer of Nice left-back Jordan Amavi.

But he is looking to recoup funds and wages by selling up to seven players, even after the departures of Andreas Weimann, Matt Lowton, Yacouba Sylla, Shay Given and Darren Bent.

'When you have players at the club who are on big money and enjoying the environment they are in, it’s hard,’ he said.

'I’m not blaming the players - the club gave them the contracts, it’s not their fault - you just have to hope they have the opportunity to move elsewhere.’

Sherwood, in Portugal on pre-season tour, added: 'Im going to get a lot of players fit who won’t be here at the start of the season. That’s a little bit frustrating but it’s part of the job

'I understand it from their point of view. I don’t hold that against them. I don’t think they should really have to move unless they want to.

'We would like to strengthen in every area but we haven’t got the bottomless pit of money.

What do we need? I think it would be helpful to bring in four but to get rid of five, six, seven maybe. I know how difficult it is, it’s not easy.'

Sherwood is pretty honest with the press isn't he? Not sure thats a good thing but at least we know exactly what he thinks.

four in seven out? Would be nice Tim, good luck shifting em.

...and that list doesn't include Vlaar, Luna or Stevens. So that's 8 out already and he wants another 5+ gone - I hope Wilkins still has his pro license :)

I wonder which 7 players he's got listed in his bomb squad...I presume he's made them aware that they are surplus to requirements.

Cissoko
Richardson
Hutton
Senderos
Cole
Herd
Sanchez
Gil
N'Zogbia
Bacuna

...anyone else on the potential sale list?

I don't think Hutton & Bacuna would be on his shift list.

I'm not sure Sanchez or Gil would be either.

Neither do I...so that makes only 6 on the list. Am I missing anyone?

I think we need to keep Hutton, Bacuna and Richardson as cover for the preferred LB and RB...or may be TS intends to only keep 2 of those.
