I'd like to think that before spouting off about telling players to find another club, Tim would have checked in with Mr Burns to ensure he had funds available to clear out the dross Lambert lumbered us with.  Tell me I'm right.

You have to be right. Sherwood has his flaws but he is not stupid.

I'd like to think that he thinks before sprouting his mouth off about "never being involved in relegation battle" and those other quips. At spurs and after he left  he sounds  off in the pressers with all sorts of claims and big I am. The mans naive trying to get by on' belief' to win a cup final and tries to talk a good game. Yet lacks ability and TOP level quality to develop any thing other than British players with his old school mentality. By his own admission he simply instructed players to get the ball into box to the big man.The jury is out with Sherwood and I've been annoyed him losing the cup final in such a manner. Time will tell but suspect like many English players of the era he wont amount to anything more than average.

I think that may have been said a bit tongue in cheek when he came out with that. You may not like him or agree with his tactics, but he had us playing some of the best football I've seen us play in a long time...he brought the passion back to the fans and clearly motivated the players to play with enthusiasm, style and technique. In that spell of 5 or 6 games we clearly weren't just launching it into the box for Benteke...but unfortunately our last 3 games and poor performances coincided when we appeared to revert to that (whether that was due to the players being knackered and not being able to sustain that level of high tempo performance due to fitness is another debate).

Considering we'd only scored 12 goals before he came, 'getting the ball into the box' was something that needed doing. Bearing in mind that Benteke scored 12 goals in 12 games on the back of this tactic and helped keep us up, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Lambert after several losses..."we go again" and nothing changes.
Sherwood after several losses...pissed off and apparently wants to axe significant numbers of players and replace them with better quality.

How successful he is remains to be seen, but I'd rather have someone that cares passionately than Lambert's apathy.

It's tokenism though.  Sherwood needs to realise that he cannot just sling out players by the virtue of the transfer window restrictions.  These players are the people that he will need use to get better results in future games.  He needs to make sure they're on his side.  Saying they're not good enough will only prove to be divisive in the long run.

That said, he has only made such comments twice, once with us and once with spurs, and on both occasions it was near the end of the season so a 'good' time to be saying it.  I hope he does not make it his knee-jerk reaction every-time we get thrashed.

What we'll never have with Sherwood is the death by 1,000 cuts that we were suffering with Lambert.  The club, or more likely the manager, will explode way before that.

Reading this thread, just reminds me that whatever happens at the Villa, some people will never be happy.
Sherwood is being honest when he says players at the club are not good enough and will be leaving.
It will be interesting to see the quality of players he brings in.
The difference in the cup final was the quality of the players available. It's difficult to compete with a team that spends big for top quality players, 42.5m Ozil,  Sanchez 35m, Cazorla 20m, when you're spending 2m on yours (Westwood).
We wont be competing financially with Arsenal, so we have to motivate the players we do or will have.

I'm convinced he told they they were shit and out the door before the game judging on performance.

I'm not sure about that. Would you pick someone to play in a Cup Final and tell them to find a new club the day before?

Maybe it kicked off behind closed doors at St Mary's ?

Or maybe they are just inferior to Arsenal's team

Not having a go at Tim Sherwood, but he didn't sign any of those did he?  I think he has done more than enough in his short time at the club to be afforded the benefit of doubt for next season.

That is sort of what we did in the final but otherwise it clearly wasn't

I think you take the blarney too seriously. Sherwood enjoys that relationship with the media and it's an approach that makes more sense than, say, Pearsons.
I'd look at the things He has done at the club and judge him on that.

Our manager is a bit more canny than you suggest.

I am pretty certain that the players told to find other clubs would not necessarily have been the ones that featured in the final.  With the possible exception of Hutton and Given.
