Nice positive article in The Guardian:  Link

This made me chuckle:  "the king-geezer schtick on the touchline, where he looks less like a cutting-edge modern manager and more like a man about to have a fight at a wedding"

Just imagine, for a moment, the celebrations. Sherwood isn’t just going to put the lid on his head, he’s going to eat it. He’s going to climb the arch in his underpants, a corner flag in each ear, pausing only to challenge Pep Guardiola, Alex Ferguson, Herbert Chapman and Mario Zagallo to a mixed martial-arts death match.

Brilliant, nice piece.

Had we won today then he would have had a free pass for as long as he was with us.

As we didn't, he doesn't. Good work on keeping us up, now the harder part begins.

Massive summer for him. Needs to work out how to play sides who are going to be better in the ball than us pronto, find width without leaving us open and solve getting goals through the side.

I don't think he got it wrong today we were just outclassed by a team who have spent a lot more.

He said this. After the match he said: “There will be some changes.
“There will be as many as we can possibly do. We obviously know we need to improve and I think I can improve the group that are already here as well.
“I’ve done that since I’ve come to the club and I need to start improving a few more and find different ways to play, which suits some of the boys who haven’t played today.
“We’ll start immediately. Some of the boys have already been told they won’t be here next year or they can go and find other clubs. I like to be that honest with them.
“I don’t want to let experienced players be strung along because I don’t think it’s right. We will be bringing in additions.”

The "stringing along experienced players" comment is interesting. Who does he mean I wonder.

Vlaar.
Cole.
Senderos.

Would be my guess.

Cole, Senderos, Lowton, Cissokho would be my first guess. If we add Vlaar, Nzogbia and Benteke in to those likely to go, and a new keeper so Guzan possibly in there too it could be a very interesting few weeks.

He kept us up, and i'm very grateful for that, but his limitations have been shown up more than once for me.

Cissokho springs to mind, though I thought he had done ok.

He will get at least one keeper in I reckon, maybe Guzan going.

Right back is strange. I think he would want to work with Bacuna and think he could learn how to play there. The older people on here will remember Gidman and Swain.

Left back, certainly has to improve. I actually thought Richardson was amongst our better players today, but not saying much.

Centre backs - Will be interesting, got 4 decent players there, Clark number 1 for me atm.

Midfield - I like Westwood, but Sanchez is more in the faces of opposition. Cleverley I would like to stay, was pooe today tbh along with many others. Delph was trying to do a bit too much in first half. Gardener, can he get involved?

Benteke will go I reckon. N'Zog don't produce enough, Jack is class though wasn't there today early on. Gabby, mmm, tough one, he looked lively today

Both really interesting statements. Especially the first comment. When we just bomb it into Benteke we become every bit the side Lambert had left behind. Yet when you watch the Everton game we scored some lovely goals in different ways. I wonder when things don't go our way whether the players revert to type and that's what he has to change. And there is no doubt he needs to do a better job in changing things when plan A isn't working. Part of that is confidence in the players, part is confidence in himself.

The performance today has put me on a complete downer I'm afraid to say towards next season which is a shame as I was looking forward to it just a few weeks ago when we were playing well in the league.

Cup final loses always seem to be the beginning of the end for villa manager, it was for Gregory and the writing on the wall for MON too after we lost the league cup final although he still shat on us on his own terms.

Bit dramatic with Sherwood not being here for long but I fully expect Benteke to leave in the next few weeks and then it's a massive challenge to replace him.

Why am I thinking it could go all a bit Di Canio at Sunderland when he replaced half the squad in summer 2013 with unknowns from abroad and Altidore?

Do you reckon he told those players that are surpluses to requirements this before todays game. If so that can't do much for team morale can it?

Makes you wonder if he was referring to just Sinclair or Gil & Weimann as well?
