Take away Abramovich' money then you'll see exactly what sort of club Chelsea is.

But clubs can become big if they win things and increase their fanbase.  If you have 40k+ fans who regularly attend games, and if you have won the biggest trophies in club football, you're a big club.

Yep.  And to argue otherwise because they were not as successful 30 years ago is nonsense.  A generation has grown up watching them be successful on a regular basis and win a hat-load of trophy's.  History is lovely, but surely trophy's and fan base has to be the defining factor of a 'big club' in the modern era.

Yet despite the success that the money has bought them, they haven't really become a massive club in the way others have.  Based solely on Birmingham, you see glory hunters walking around in Manchester United and Liverpool shirts, but not many in Chelsea or Manchester City for that matter.  It might be different in London and parts of the south, but I would say they are behind Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal in terms of size.

He was in fine form today at the press conference.

Some gems-
Q: Will Randy be at the cup final?
"Nah, he can't get a ticket, the allocation is a bit poor innit? No seriously he will be there, next to the Queen."

Q: Roy Keane alleges you were positioning yourself for the job by attending the games at Villa Park is that true?
"Is that how you get a job in football then? Next time I am out of work I am showing up at the Nou Camp and Bernabéu every week."

A big club is one that remains big no matter how bad things get even if it drops as low as the third division.

Take a bow Aston Villa. Good luck with that Chelsea, if it ever happens.

Much as it pains me to say, Chelsea are a big club these days. You don't spend the best part 20 years of competing for trophies every year and not be a big club.

No, it makes them a rich club. not a big club. take the money away and they'll go back to having 20 000 fans a week, yo-yoing between the top two divisions, and worrying about QPR and Fulham. Chelsea are definitely not 'big'. Just successful.

They've been relegated 6 times in their history, we've been relegated 5 times. Even before the PL, they had more seasons averaging 40K+ than us.

Is there a link to the Sherwood press conference or is it only on AVTV?

Little bit here.

Rest on AVTV. Any particular bit you want to know about? I can probably watch & quote it for you.

edit: Lovely shot.

That doesn't tell us much though as I'd guess Wigan have been relegated less than the both of us. plus before the PL Chelsea spent roughly on average 1 in every 4 seasons in the second division.

Cheers. I managed to find some quotes on Goal as well so this is all good. Just wanted to hear his cheeky voice as I'm getting excited for tomorrow.

That picture reminded me to say something I've been meaning to say for a while..........I never realized how tall Sherwood was when he was a player.  He was a midfielder, but he could easily have been a centre-back or a forward, he's almost as big as the beast!
