It is curious to wonder whether Lambert would have got the job if our last game of that season hadn't been Norwich away where the crowd were chanting Paul Lambert's name. Maybe it would still have happened that way but I think the selection process would have had less of an influence that created a potential bias.

That was cringeworthy. Glad I wasn't part of that.

I'm sure Pelty will be afforded the same courtesy as every poster.

To be honest I think the Lerner / sherwood relationship dilemma is a moot point anyway. This club IMHO changes hands this summer after we stay up.

From memory, I think the names most of us were talking about were Rodgers, Martinez, Lambert and possibly Moyes.  Then there was also Solskjaer who came out of left field.

At the time, all were considered good candidates, and probably because we were so desperate we didn't really examine their potential shortcomings.  Or more to the point their shortcomings were not yet exposed.

Once Martinez, Moyes, and Rodgers were ruled out; Lambert was (on paper) probably the best candidate we could reasonably get out of the names discussed.  We weren't to know his staff would turn out to be dicks, and for him to become a lone, frightened man.

I don't think it is a case of where it all went wrong with Lambert. It was never right it the first place. Certain victories and odd bursts of form seemed bigger than they were because they stood out amongst all of the rubbish we had to put up with.
At the time the majority were all for him being appointed. I don't thing there was much wrong with the appointment but things don't always pan out as you hope they might. The big problem was Lerner failing to recognise that it wasn't working and that a change was needed. Not that many managers last 3 years these days, it's a question of when you call time on it.

When I say it was never right in the first place maybe I should clarify. His record in three seasons with Norwich made him a worthy candidate. But from his first game in charge onwards it rarely looked likely to be successful, and the promising spells were relatively brief. Whilst not being as pleased as most at his appointment I can't claim to have been against it. Honours as a player, coaching badges in Germany, two successive promotions followed by staying in the PL comfortably with Norwich. He certainly ticked a lot of boxes. The atmosphere before his first home game against Everton was buzzing with anticipation. The performance and result was sadly an indication of the rest of his time in charge.

Sherwood has had a great start and I think he'll keep us up but anyone getting a little tired of the Spurs/I saved Harry Kane stories? I hope we don't have another DOL and what I did at Leeds scenario brewing.

He is being asked about him at every conference. As such, he is is going to answer the questions.

The same Harry Kane that played a whole 23 minutes of the first three months of Sherwood's time at Spurs.

do you believe he is going out of his way to volunteer Spurs stories? We are all reading bits of the entire conversation and the bits being printed are about the hottest young forward in England. Like I said earlier I very much doubt he stops talking about Villa, and asks to change the conversation to Spurs.

I think Sherwood has a likeable cockiness as opposed to DOL's annoying smugness. And that was my opinion of both men before they joined us. Although I won't pretend I was against DOL when he arrived because I did think he was a decent manager despite his arrogance. By the end it was all I could do not to smash the TV when he appeared.

Totally get the comments. Just think he needs to be careful since he'll get away with while things are positive. However, if things get sticky again then fans will target it and that's when things get messy.
