Is it right to assume that for the game earlier in the week and the second half yesterday all he did was motivate the players to play better? Would it not be worth commending him for tactically being correct, or being able to make good decisions during the game that positively affected how we played? I'm not saying he's some tactical genius but it would be unfair just to credit him as a motivator and not recognize that he actually might be able to read the game with some level of intelligence too.

Like I say, when we've seen him at work over a whole season that's when we'll be able to say how many strings he has to his bow.  Pretty much everyone in the game who has commented on Sherwood has said he's not a tactical genius but is a great motivator so it's not just me / us.  Whatever he did this week worked, that much is true.

Although one of the guys running the course in Wales where he was taking his pro license did say he is much more tactically aware than anyone credits him for, he just chooses not to have it as a main focus.

Well that's encouraging.  We all had opinions about Sherwood before he joined the club, good or bad, but I'm more than willing to be convinced.

I bloody hated him as a player, and was not a fan as a coach. He is our pillock now though, and I bloody love it at the moment. It is very much in the moment, but his big mouth, brash nature and over the top ways are exactly what the club needs. He is literally shaking the club out of its malaise from top to bottom.

Agreed, even if from a footballing point of view I prefer their archirivals of Athletic Bilbao.

He decided for the first game against the Bitters that ramming the centre was the best way to get us playing, and this single decision cancels out all the daft ones he may make otherwise. On Saturday it was 4-3-3 rather than 4-3-1-2, but the principle was the same: control the middle of the pitch, stay right on top of them when we lose the ball, have license to try things.

In fact, because we're so pest-like when we lose the ball (and have numbers to spare in the middle), the players appear happier to take risks and express themselves, knowing that if it doesn't come off there's defensive insurance there.

We still look suspiciously like we don't have much of a plan other than 'fackin' go at 'em', but that'll do me just fine. Sherwood's got the players revved right up, and he's made a tactical tweak or two which makes them feel more comfortable. I'm still far from convinced it'll work long-term - this all has the feeling of an out-of-control lorry, avoiding cars on the motorway by instinct and sheer momentum as it careers off - but it doesn't need to. All he needs to do is win us the Cup and stay in the league. That's all. No pressure Tim!

I reckon we need 10 points to stay up. Sunderland is a game we've got to be targeting for a win. They're a mess. We're in some form now. Chalk off 3 points next saturday, and get something from the Swansea game, and we're nicely on the way before a tough spell.

I would say 11 or 12 to be confident and the sooner we get them, the better. Given that April will be tough, we could really do with taking maximum points from the Sunderland and Swansea games. April will be a case of hoping a confident team can nick some points where they wouldn't be expected.
