The way some ppl talk it's as if we've got a pool of undiscovered talented footballers waiting in the wings ready to take to the pitch and change our (mis)fortunes. Sherwood has the same squad of players to choose from so all he can do is hope they show something in training that translates onto the pitch. Would having Sanchez, Gil or Weiman or A N Other on the pitch really make that much difference when the ability of the players is so blatantly poor? Say all you like about low confidence but most of our squad haven't got the ability to perform and demonstrate even the most basic footballing skills and intelligence consistently on the pitch.

Lerner is to blame for slashing the budgets available. Lambert is to blame for spending the funds available on such poor players (especially when compared to teams with even lower budgets than ours). Sherwood has been dealt a truly shite hand inheriting his bunch of inadequates.

You can't polish a turd.

I was guilty of thinking somebody else could get more out of these players, but I don't think they could, honestly. I think as individuals, they could probably look loads better, but as a team, they're just not very good. What makes me so upset about it is that next season we'll be buying players from the same talent pool as we've done for the last three or four years, with the same budget. We'll be trying to replace a below-par team with players that aren't supposed to be as good as these, or loaning cast offs from Premier League clubs that will just take them back once we've blooded them.

When a team's relegated, it's supposedly time for the youth team to step up to the plate as well. The youth teamers we've promoted haven't really ripped up the Championship, have they? I know Gardener scored today, yadda yadda, but is anybody excited by the prospect of trying to win promotion with a core of Gary Gardener and Ashley Westwood?

Don't know whether to laugh  or cry.

I thought this summed it up quite nicely:

Quote
Tim: Right Les, big game against Liverpool on Sunday, they are flying high and lots of people think they will spank us but I reckon we can cause 'em an upset. Any thoughts.

Les: I like your thinking boss, did you see their game against Sunderland.

Tim: Nah...

Les: Me neither, but I was reading on the internet earlier and some bloke in the F365 mailbox reckons Sunderland did well by pressing Liverpool high up the pitch then dropping back into two solid banks of four whenever Pool crossed the halfway and looking to hit them on the break.

Tim: Look Les, you know what I think of all this tactics guff, I wanted proper football advice, not some mumbo jumbo off the interweb. Also, what I have told you about reading...

Les: But boss, Sunderland almost got something out of that game and I reckon if we used similar tactics with our better players we could could really snatch this win!

Tim: Stop it Les, I won't warn you again mate. You and this bloke off the interweb have got it all wrong, the reason Sunderland almost got a point was because they tried really hard. We just have to try even harder than they did and we will be fine. Now, let's pick the team. GK has to be Lloris, agreed.

Les: agreed

Tim: Right, now for defense... defense... ah feck it, I hate defense, it's so boring! Tell you what Les, you just pick any four of them, try to pick ones who are fit.

Les: Alright boss

Tim: Now for picking the front six, I like this bit. Well, let's see. Chadli, Sigi and Eriksen have all scored recently so they must be trying really hard right now so we better pick all of them.

Les: Makes sense boss.

Tim: I know Nabil really well so he has to play. We have to have at least one striker, I can't be dealing with any of this false 9 foreign muck, Ade is injured so let's go for Soldado. That leaves one place left but we have a problem. So far we don't have any English men in our team.

Les: I was planning on picking a couple of the English lads for our defenders boss.

Tim: Come on Les, you know defenders don't count! Right, one spot left, who can we play that is English. Well Lennon is English and so is Townsend. To be honest they have both been a bit crap this season but I know Aaron a bit better so I guess it will be him. We can always swap them on 60 minutes anyway. Done, this management lark is easy, time for some golf?

Les: one thing boss, don't you think we should play a couple of our holding midfielders, maybe Dembele or Sandro, they are both pretty good and could really work well in this game.

Tim: I would love to Les, but there is no space left. The others are trying really hard or are English or know me really well. I don't make the rules.

Les: Hmmm, alright boss, it's a bold line-up but I think it could work. Lennon and Chadli on the wings, Eriksen just behind Sodado, I reckon we could cause them problems.

Tim: No no no, Eriksen has got to be on the wing.

Les: You what?

Tim: Think about it, he is our best player, but if we play him in the hole he will be up against Gerrard. Gerrard tries really hard and is really good and is English so Eriksen will get no joy against him there. Right, unless you have any more bright ideas Les I am off to play golf.

I was expecting a reaction tbh, we've just played a Stoke team missing half their first choice 11 and a Newcastle team which squad imo isn't much better than ours. No one could've watched them today and though yep this team is easily 13 points better than us. Just shows you how inept we've been.

Yes we were in a poor state when Sherwood took over but so were West Brom who were in a malaise under Irvine and Palace were doing poorly under Warnock. Both teams win their first games and that has provided the impetus for I think both to comfortably achieve safety now.

We've had no bounce whatsoever.

I liken the Sherwood appointment to Cardiff appointing OGS at a similar stage last season. Lots thought he'd be a coup and keep them up, he didn't and was woefully underprepared for the championship.

I wonder if Sherwood will go along the same lines. I do actually think he'll make a decent manager one day but I wouldn't fancy him buiding a promotion winning team in the championship.

If the worst happens I'd go for Big Sam who let's remember actually joined West Ham when they'd just been relegated in 2011 and is likely to be out of work.

Such a shock. Looks like we have our next manager available now. Someone with experience of the top 6 and not afraid of stamping his authority on the players (normally fist marks). I expect Faulkner to be sounding him out when we are down there in May.

Spooky.

Infrequent Poster here...many years a lurk... ;D

I did not really want "Sir Tim"...but I will support him, and hope he finds his own strenghts and utilises them for us. That is VITAL.

So far I've been discouraged, not just over the results -both were ridiculous - not warranted- imo.

I'm discouraged that "Sir Tim" has changed his approach to interviews.
He is no longer 'slagging-off' individuals, he is 'slagging off' a team.

Going to put pressure on them, because Paul protected them...Brilliant!

That's what we need in the media, "Me Against The Team"

I know we fluctuate, as supporters.

We pleaded for Lambert, we denounced McClaren...Lerner listened  !!!

We've got "Sir Tim" on Fox's advice. Randy flew in and didn't bother to  stay for a match...BRILLIANT.

Best way to show support for your 'toy' ...and drive a deal eh ?

Failed in the US in Sports, and Failing here in Sports.

2 rumours of take-overs, both waiting in abeyance for the end of season.

IF we stay up, with the future TV Deal money...then Lerner will raise his price - why not-look at the money he'll get!
IF we go down for a tour....then it's another "Goodbye Randy, try Women's Soccer next"

My main gripe in the years I never posted was the flatulent General and Randy..
'Mr Love-Me'

Didn't mind McLeish, that much. He had the original remitt of "cut costs" and did a fair whack...but his play was too boring and cautious for us wasn't it? So we sang for Paul.
Who had a similar remitt. Cut costs and wages..

So Paul went young and hungry...then shipped all his failures out...had a squad of pro's that he bombed, only to bring them in to support his training and be 1st team again. JEEZ.

Now, "Sir Tim" decries hoofball, but uses it.
'Players in right positions' ?
Nope. :'(

Thing was, at the toon, we covered the pitch, we had people available in advanced positions like we've never had before ..(when we passed sideways without fear in our own half). WE REALLY WERE THE BETTER TEAM TILL HALF TIME.

Then, after his "stonkin" half-time nous..we went worse...JEEZ.
{He won against Leicester in the half-time?  And made us worse against the toon?
Porkie pies here....}

I don't know what it is, but "Sir Tim"is doing exactly what 'Sir Paul'  did.

WHY ?

NAIVETY ?

5 MONTH MANAGER - with "Bale-money" players?- 59% Win record in that time.

0% Win record with us !

Who's Zooming Who?

I Don't like Lerner, never have -- just a 'prissy-pampered-pet' with no knowledge of sport but abunndant self-belief  somehow. perhaps surroundong himself with "Yes-Men"

So that's it..just hope the Prices are reasonable next year to watch Rotheram.
And "Sir Tom's" shirt-sales and endorsements really rattle the Holte's soul with belief.

 :)

Not sure alftitmus, but I am not at all happy about this zooming which you mention.

This was already going to be a fraught week, and now I am going to have to watch out for potential zoomers.

Our dog gets the 'Zoomies' if that helps.

Basically means he goes mental, running around and barking after he's had his bath. It's quite common amongst canines apparently.

"Zooming" is 'Yankee-speech'...check Aretha folks  ;D

Still a question.."Who's Zooming Who ?"
I think it is 'Sir Tim'....and Fox and 'Love-Me' have done a blunder.

Which don't help us - does it ?

"Sir Tim" used his post-match interviews at Spurs, to rattle, annoy or invigorate his charges

"Sir Tim " has learnt....now  he is insulting the whole team...not Gabby as an   individual....yet.. ;D

But everyone!

It's "ME AGAINST THE TEAM" cr@pology.

I Hope this kind of  public support works against the  Baggies...

We will see.... 8)

I think he's just doing his best with his limited experience and it doesn't help not having his most trusted Backroom team in place.

He's a work in progress manager at the exact time when we needed someone with some experience and nous. Although I'm not blaming him for our current position at all this was a baffling appointment, especially as we apparently didn't speak to anyone else at all according to Fox.

Maybe if we were a safe mid table team you'd take a gamble on him but in our position...... Madness.

I'm told we "spoke" to a few Agents

BEFORE HULL

One of those Agents is closely related to Mcleish by marriage. :-X

And...if it is true that Paul asked to be "sacked" after the early spiral down...that might be his background knowledge.

Well Fox said that he'd only approached Sherwood, no one else following Lambert's departure.

At the time i was shocked given the gravitas of our situation - but not surprised.  Their decision making regarding footballing matters never makes much sense, why should they start now.
