I was amazed by Marshall saying he is calling Lambert for advice... WHY?!!

It's a good idea...ask him what he would do and how he would play....then simply do the complete opposite.

Must admit it is a massive worry for tomorrow when he says he is going to be contacting the sacked manager. Hopefully Sherwood will get involved in some capacity during the game

Like tell them which way they're kicking

That might be a bit tough at first

It's a very poor appointment
This suggests that a better appointment was available/ could have been made. I've seen no evidence to suggest this was the case.

Did we interview anyone else? If not, then yes.....a better appointment may have been available but the owner/board/club were too lazy, too tight, too stupid not to look elsewhere. They took the easiest option!

The club that I have loved since 1976 is being run by imbeciles! FACT!

Oh.....good luck Sherwood by the way.....I will back you simply because you are now the manager of the greatest club in the world!

Please prove me wrong!

Think we need 15 points to be safe. So 4 wins and 3 draws . Looking at the home games it is achievable
On previous form no, but if they can improve it sure is. I wasn't going to go again but I am now looking forward to the games. Get a quick win or two and the crowd going and we can do it. That first year of Lambert we were in similar trouble and went for it, lucky at times (QPR) but it was actually quite exciting with goals, remember them?

It seems the tactically inept Sherwood got significantly more out of them, than the much lauded and highly thought of tactical genius, modern progressive manager that is AVB.

Except he didn't, given that AVB had the better win % over his tenure.

At least get your bloody facts right.
Sherwood had a better win % than AVB, fact and that's with AVB having the world class, most expensive player in history for a whole season.

Sherwood got more out of the team than AVB did and improved then quite a lot.

Let's hope he can do the same for us.

It'll be like that Monty Python 'Upper Class Twit of the Year' sketch at kick off, all running off in different directions.

I am glad things are settling down on the It's Sherwood thread, on the early pages he was described as a c!!t and a f!!!! n twat which is so horrible and insulting, we all have our opinions but the vitriol has been way over the top, I defended him last night amongst all the anger and angst and guess what he wouldent have been my first choice either but I do have a strong feeling he can turn things round and save us this season, after that who knows, lets all get behind our manager, good luck Tim

I don't remember you being so upset when Lambert was being called the same things just two weeks back on here. But rich frankly to now start taking the moral ground.

And no we don't all need to get behind him, but we do all need to get behind the club which I am sure we will.

It's a very poor appointment but what is done is done so now all we can do is watch and see what happens

Im not trying to take the moral high ground but just thought things were getting a bit out of hand before he had even started the job, no one deserves to be called the c word, not Lambert not anybody, lets all calm down a bit and like you said see what happens, if Sherwood succeeds we will all be happy.

Our hands were tied due to the ridiculous delay in pulling the trigger but who should we have gone for then given the need to get someone in extremely quickly. We couldn't hang about with this one could we?

We have a new inexperienced chief executive, a new inexperienced head of recruitment, a new inexperienced head of media, a new inexperienced manager, meanwhile, the “director of football operations” is a post that remains unfilled.

What could go wrong?

So long as the inexperienced manager gets the players behind him, especially the potentially world class centre forward, I will be happy

Lighten up, Gary, it's not like we're in the bottom three with thirteen games to go.

What many posters are missing is that any manager would have to conform to a strict minimilist spending policy, make no mistake Villa are for sale i don't think anythings changed on that front but until that day comes Lerner will not be spending large amounts of money on players. What under those restrictions would be the point of talking to many of the potential managers that may have been availeable? one of the first questions that they would have asked is how much money will i have to spend in summer and at that point the negotiations would have broken down. Nothing has changed with this appointment we will see Villa in survival mode until Lerner is gone.

Oh yes, get my facts right:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Sherwood#Managerial_statistics - 50% in all comps
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Villas-Boas#Managerial_statistics - 55% in all comps

AVB had Bale, but Sherwood had better squad depth (and it's not like Eriksen is some mediocre player anyway).

Someone above made a post about Sherwood having a higher PL win %, and I'm willing to accept that. But frankly, I'd much rather prefer the record in all competitions. I don't believe in this "prioritise the league" nonsense, especially when you had a deep squad of players like Spurs had (plus they were pretty much out of the CL race when he took over anyway).

Anyway, the win % was presented as a response to the suggestion that Sherwood got "significantly more" out of the Spurs players than AVB. That's quite clearly not true, because the results were pretty much the same. regardless of what win % you look at.

That is your opinion, but Sherwood has turned down clubs for possible the same reasons, I actually like the thought of him giving good kids a chance if they are here
