I think given where we are in the league and the number of games, we couldn't really afford to be choosy.  Sherwood is probably as good as what was available.
I hear this every time we appointed a new manager since O'Neill left but I don't believe it's true.  Not once in that time have I believed we've appointed the best out of what's available.

I didn't think much of Sherwood when he was in charge of Spurs and I didn't think much of him when he was linked with us.  Even less so actually because he could then be compared to a lot of other potential managers.  I'm not going to change my view now simply because he's been given the job.

Of course I want desperately for him to prove me wrong and I'll support the team regardless of how I feel about the manager.  But as much as I hope it will go well I don't think it will and I've said that after we appointed Houllier, McLeish and, to a certain extent, Lambert.  We can't keep appointing these has beens, never wases and novices and expect things to work out.

It must be great being so right all the time bet you can't wait for it to go all tits up for him. Christ on a bike the overwhelming negativity of the majority of posters on this thread is thoroughly depressing.

I think people forget where we are. We don't need a tactical genius. We need someone to get the players playing for the shirt, attacking, winning the second balls, fighting for the points. Long term that may only get us to mid table but then surely that is progress from where we are.

He wasn't my choice but I'm fully behind him now and delighted lambert is no more.
What a week it's been , the low of Tuesday night in hull, the elation of Wednesday night with the sacking and the uncertainty of Thursday and Friday

First post. He wasn't the man I really wanted but already been talking with my best villa mate in Cornwall to arrange when we can get to our next game. Who knows what is going to be like but let's just give him all our support and make sure we stay in this division .
I just love that we have a new chapter and can move on from the last three years of really dour football. We have the players lets just hope he knows what to do with them.
Up The Villa !!!!

It seems the tactically inept Sherwood got significantly more out of them, than the much lauded and highly thought of tactical genius, modern progressive manager that is AVB.
Well put. There's been much histrionics from keyboard warriors this evening. Sherwood is not the manager I'd have chosen if more options were available, but frankly what do people expect in mid February?

I am glad things are settling down on the It's Sherwood thread, on the early pages he was described as a c!!t and a f!!!! n twat which is so horrible and insulting, we all have our opinions but the vitriol has been way over the top, I defended him last night amongst all the anger and angst and guess what he wouldent have been my first choice either but I do have a strong feeling he can turn things round and save us this season, after that who knows, lets all get behind our manager, good luck Tim

I don't remember you being so upset when Lambert was being called the same things just two weeks back on here. But rich frankly to now start taking the moral ground.

And no we don't all need to get behind him, but we do all need to get behind the club which I am sure we will.

It's a very poor appointment but what is done is done so now all we can do is watch and see what happens

I think the reaction is harsh! We all wanted Lambert out we needed a man in quickly and there isn't a great deal out there

He is driven determined and he bring confidence to the team

I think it's about time the fans got behind the team now and stopped moaning

Up the villa

Some people are just miserable fuckers who will never be happy unless they get what they want....Leave them to wallow mate :) UTV

So it was ok to be negative and miserable a week ago on here but now that's an issue???

There's about 2 1/2 years of difference.

Except he didn't, given that AVB had the better win % over his tenure.

I think it's an underwhelming, but not completely terrible appointment considering what was available and the timeframe we were working under, but the bigger problem I have is the length of the contract he's been given. I have absolutely no faith in him presenting a long-term option.

So who would you have got in? I am actuallly quite excited about the thought of watching a team managed by a bloke who will tell them if they are not putting their all into the cause for our great club

If I'm negative it's because I think the club has made a big mistake and I'd be lying if I said otherwise.  So wind your neck in.

Well put. I am starting to get a bit excited myself.

Then again I got excited about OGS so my credibility is pretty low.

The length of his contract is not a concern to me now. Ultimately if he is sacked early and entitled to a pay off it's Lerner who will pay, not me or you

Also, the board took pelters for a lack of a contingency plan in the wake of O'Neill's departure.

In this instance, it looks like Sherwood has been watching us and ready to step in since the Palarse game.

We don't know the conditions of Lambert's contract, but as soon as we dropped into the bottom three he was potted. That may or may not have invoked a clause for minimal/ no compensation, but it seems odd to me that they moved so quickly when that occurred. Odd, based on how unconcerned they seemingly were prior to that.

Most of us have bee concerned since at least October.  To me, being 18th and 2 points off 15th  as we are at present is not hugely different to being 15th and two points clear of the drop. Both are a shite state of affairs.

My gut feeling is that we are gone, in all honesty.

Pulis or similar have a track record of staying in the division. Bringing Pulis in would have also had the advantage of destabilising Olbiyun and dragging them back into the dogfight.  We might have even beaten Stoke at home.

Is this what it has come to, wishing Pulis was manager?

Christ on a bike.

Again I will ask, who would you have brought in?
