Hilts - please, do tell. Who would you have appointed, quickly, that could have kept us up and then built for the future?
This is what bugs me.  We appoint Sherwood, who a week ago very few people were clamouring for, and not only are we now expected to be positive about a man whose managerial career encompasses 28 games - and incidentally a man who many loathed, as you did, this time last week - but we're also expected to buy that he was not only the best possible candidate but the only possible candidate, someone who could not possibly have been improved on.  He's gone from being regarded as a mouthy tosser, to a contender and to the best candidate in less than a week.  And now he's been appointed you're asking me to believe we couldn't have done better?  It's mental.

As I said before, if you think the sum total of 14 good results makes someone qualified - and in fact more qualified than anyone else - to become the Villa manager then good luck to you.  Regardless of whatever qualities Sherwood may or may not have surely 14 good results is a feeble basis for appointing any manager, particularly when the club concerned is in such a dangerous position?

I don't. All I have done is try and see some positives amongst the misery.

I will likely be like you again in 6 months and happily loathing the arrogant tosser, but until he gives me reason to do so, I am going to give him a fair chance.

That said, he lifts the FA Cup for us, I will be sporting a gillet and changing my name to Timmy.

Too right, so will I.  As walnuts said earlier, my strong misgivings about Sherwood are not the same thing as not wanting him to do well.  We all want him to do well.  I said elsewhere today that my beef is not really with Sherwood himself - he is what he is - but with the board who appointed him.

But that board is not going to change until we sell. In the meantime, I kind of admire the balls of Fox to say I want him, go out and get him in 3 days without any fuss. If it all goes wrong he will rightfully be open to massive criticism and would be rightfully in danger of losing his job.

Given the circumstances I think it's a good outcome. I expect us to now stay up. That said, id rather the circumstances were different and we weren't in this big pile of steaming shit in the first place. But we are, so let's hope he helps us to climb out of it. If he keeps us up then he deserves to show what he can do over the summer in building a squad and a proper crack at next season.

Lambert had to go and they've dealt with this with a minimum of fuss. I think we'll be ok now.

When it comes to appointing his assistants I wonder how close he and Sid were in the season and a half they played in midfield together for Blackburn?

Not to mention when they crossed swords as youth team directors or whatever they are called.

I don't remember hearing about that.

When I say "crossed swords" I mean when we played Sperms at yoot level while Timeh was in charge there.

I'd like to see him bring Hoddle and Steve Clarke in to help. Then I'd have faith.

That is absolutely critical because right now the coaching talent at Bodymoor is horrendous.

Well I'd like to see him bring in Hoddle and Waddle to help. We may then get some diamond nights down at the Villa.

On the other hand seeing as the new boss is named after Robin Hood, maybe he can bring in Little John, Maid Marion and Friar Tuck and turn VP into a forest for all our enemies to get mugged and robbed whenever they are passing through.

Can't say I'm excited but maybe it's just because the last X amount of managers have been bloody useless, he's our manager now so until he shown us what he is about I'll keep my opinions to myself.

Tim Sherwood's attracted a lot of hostile comment about his personality,  his lack of experience and even his gilet, but he's here now and we have to support him. We just don't know how it'll turn out and shouldn't prejudge.  I wasn't happy about the appointment of Ron Saunders or John Gregory but they didn't do badly. I welcomed Tommy Docherty and Paul Lambert but they both failed. Let's take it from game to game and give Tim a fair chance.

I honestly do not think this is a rushed appointment, the difference being Fox, he has played the game as other clubs play it, sort out possible alternatives while the incumbent is in charge, I think his "Flick of the coin' may become the new "Vote of Confidence", while going around the country meeting alternatives, the problem Fox had, was the job description, " Get us out the shit, Come the summer work on approx 10 to 15 mill, plus 50% of sales generated, play some form of attacking football and please get our youth system sorted, Oh and by the way, we may get sold anytime in the next 6 months and the new owner may think your a tosser and get rid of you."
So taking into account the above who would really fancy it, maybe we have got the only one who does.
The other interesting development over the last couple of days, is the resignation of the QPR CEO, I think he is called Beard, one of the reasons he gave was his now lack of involvement in football matters, restricted by Les Ferdinand appointment as DOF, his background is London Olympics, just like our new finance guy, just a coincidence or our next DOF.

The decision has been made by the board, so it's up to us to get behind him and the boys. Give him a chance.

Kuwait as always you post with good sense and wisdom. In Fox's position I would have done the same facing the same criteria of lack of top drawer managerial talent, our league position, our ownership uncertainty and the huge pot of Sky money on the table. Sherwood either will or will not work. If it does fine, if it does not, sack him and appoint a better long term prospect.  Survival is the over riding priority.
